I don´t know the extent of fame of Farscape but it was a well made tv series that deserved to be continued.

adaliabooks: I always assume people just don't get / watch British stuff much (other than the biggies like Doctor Who or Sherlock)
You know, I never could get into Dr Who even though I'm big on sci-fi. The whole thing just always feels odd to me. *shrug* As for Doc Martin, that's totally up my alley. Love that kind of stuff.

I enjoyed Farscape (belatedly), but I always felt like it tried too much acting serious and half the time coming across as a bit silly.

tinyE: NCIS is popular because it is well written and the characters are fun.

I watch it all the time.
NCIS is militarist crap, it feeds into a paranoid view of the world where America is constantly threatened by Russians, Chinese or Iranians. I'm surprised you like it, I would have thought it appeals rather to older, uneducated Trump voters.

I am so sick of arguing with people right now. Please just forget I posted anything. :P
I don't want any more post directed at me for the rest of the day unless they are fun and jovial; no more conflicts tonight. :P

Ok. I'm honestly a bit shocked however how positively people around here view NCIS...for me it's always been clear that this show is blatant propaganda for American interventionism and the security state.
And its jokes are pretty dumb.

If it helps, I prefer SVU.

SVU is also pretty bad, some of its episodes were just sick, really sensationalist stuff...and with so many serial killers around, it's strange NYC hasn't been totally depopulated yet. Though it seems the show got better after that asshole Stabler with his anger issues left.

No, I'm actually serious, I really do believe NCIS feeds into the paranoia of a subset of the American population. There's always some horrible threat by evil foreigners...Russians, Chinese, Hamas or Hisbollah...plotting against the US. I actually do believe that show is dangerous, international tensions are already high, there's a danger of something like "preemptive war" against Iran...and NCIS contributes to that militarist, interventionist mindset,

I actually like The Mentalist and Castle...mostly without dubious political messaging like in NCIS...and not into torture porn like some episodes of SVU.
Seriously?!?

Series like NCIS, Homeland, Public enemy, etc are just unintelligent silliness from the (once) powers of USA. Neither can qualify as having "cultural footprint.

1. "Chief, I've hacked his phone is seconds, with javascript. It's confirmed - He has pictures of kittens."
1. "He's also from the middle-east."
2. "He must be a terrorist"
3. "I'm the leader, I'm now taking of my cool glasses in slowmo. with no apparent reason, other than filling the seconds.
3. "He' is a bad man."
2. Let's get to his place, kick in the door, kick the obvious terrorist, then arrest him, say something cool, and go home".

"I'm scared of naked people, it's disgusting, but I like guns and blood. Show me more dead bodies!". "Fuck science and logic - we drink, piss, and shoot first."

I like silliness and crazy sometimes, but these are small improvement over The Bold and the Beautiful. Just inflated air filled with smell. Maybe Castle and iZombie get my "possible not boring and dumb award", but they too got silly with forced drama.

Avatar? Rehash of Pocahontas. I like the movie for its action, but it's almost like Michael Bay had a baby with Cameron.

While on crime series, I'd say Colombo, X-Files, Poirot, Frost, and Monk has more substance, better dialog and acting.

Cultural footprint? Uhm, for the better or worse? It can not have cultural footprint unless it has value or some intellectual content that can withstand the times. There are many that have had an impact but Knight Rider, Law And Order, and especially Farscape, Twin Peaks, X-files, Startrek, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica would qualify as having major, lasting cultural footprint. Perhaps Stranger Things, Westworld and GoT in the future.

These, Marvel and the Terminator movies are being constantly referenced to, mimicked and used over and over again. However, nothing last forever.

NCIS? No cultural footprint what so ever. Hope it never does.

I now understand what it means to get older; Getting tired of BS and looking forward to use the brain once in a while. I haven't had a TV channel for many years now. :-D

Stranger Things is even less original than Avatar. It's not going to have any lasting footprint, not of it's own- it has nothing of it's own. Any footprint it leaves is in fact more of the footprint of the 80's adventure sci-fi movies it slavishly (and rather ineptly) copies.

That's gotta be the first time I've seen anybody paranoid of paranoia.
We need to go deeper.

May not be original or long-lasting, but hey, at least it's of good quality. Doesn't exactly claim to be more than it is:
A niche little Netflix show that hearkens back to the sci-fi of the 80s, and does so quite well, I might add.
