Honestly, never heard of him, but the article made me curious, so I`ll check him out on Youtube in the next days.
Rap, ah the days I spent listening to Eminem as a kid. Used to listen to those songs everyday and now I don't even want to hear the genre's name itself.

Rap, Hip Hop, RnB, all the kinds of music I despise. What I really hate about these is when they integrate a small piece in what are otherwise great songs, such as this for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mFIMns_qTM (just skip to 1:53 if you don't want to listen to it all).
A laserdisc rip? With asian subtitles? I though me watching VHS-rips were hipster enough.

drealmer7: I used to despise rap, and then I had someone educate me and I became more open-minded and realized I was categorically dismissing something that I didn't know much about. There's some really excellent stuff out there, just as with any genre.

Tarm: It all sounds like someone nagging at me. Sometimes while banging frenetic on some sort of hollow....thing.
I really do understand the off-putting sound and used to feel that way. I suggest listening closer, but, I can't force you. I'd happily make some recommendations/provide links of songs I think you might find more palatable if you are open to them.

Well I can stomach the old 80s and early 90s rap. It's after that where they started to sound like they nag like crazy. That doesn't even sound like singing to me. It does not help that the music often is there just to emphasize the nagging.
It gets on my nerves.
Gangster's Paradise by Coolio is probably one of the best rap songs ever made.

Well, to be honest, I don`t like modern "Rap" too. From the middle of the 90s on rap became something that wasn`t enjoyable anymore.
When I was in 8th grade, one of my classmates signed my yearbook, "Do not listen to rap, or it will make you crap".

I thought it was pretty good advice.

I've heeded it ever since.

Well, he definitely didn`t know much about rap. Rap is more than only the G-Style songs. There are so many different styles and meanings in Rap. Try the first album of De La Soul "Three feet high and rising" or the first 4 Albums of Public Enemy, or the Albums of Paris.

I'd be very grateful for any piece of advice my 8th grade self or any of my 8th grade friends would give me now some twenty years later.

Then, with the benefit of hindsight, I'd do the exact opposite.

Still waiting for tort to come in and tell us rap is the product of poor uneducated urban youths that use their music to promote crime, drug use, and over breeding.

The other day I was driving, Ice Ice Baby came on the radio, and I have to confess, I turned it way up. :P

I'm not proud.
