Oh, some would try to ally with the invaders, some will deny it's happening until they'll be chopped to bits, and maybe even then, some will try to just hide and protect themselves and to hell with everyone else...

We already are in such a scenario... And a "Don't Look Up" one, obviously.
But define "smart". And on its own it doesn't mean anything. Sociopaths usually are highly intelligent. And those who call the shots, in politics, business, crime or whatever you want, leading us where we are. (And yes, there's a significant overlap between those categories.)
JacobSlatter: I often play good but will be 'evil' for things like the scamming the casino machines quest in mass effect and looting chests. I will sometimes test out the other options before loading and continuing on too.
Wouldn't call that evil. And grabbing whatever's not nailed down is the standard in games anyway.
