Ever since I've joined up here I've been overall happy with the way GOG handles things, It's better than any other distributor I used, and I'm not talking just about Steam here but everything else. GOG crossed fires and made many efforts to bring some of our beloved games here.
However something has changed over the past year (mainly), some for the better some for the worst, And (from my point of view) the quality of some releases is very poor. It is also worth noting that GOG has become very quiet around the forums, they used to communicate more with their community, I understand these may be the their busiest days ever and wasting time on the forums isn't a viable thing, but I have to say some things should be addressed from time to time.
Below I've compiled a small list of games and other things that should get some attention, and GOG: If any of your staff reads this, please make a note of it.
1) Pillars of Eternity: Hero/Champion/Royal Editions.
During pre release GOG offered 3 versions of this game and has stated that upgrade paths would be available, It's been almost a year since they said that and nothing has been done about it. Even worse the game went on sale numerous times and these so called edition upgrades never happened.
2) Metro 2033 / Last Light Redux - The Mac and Linux story.
These 2 games have had the aformentioned versions released on Steam but not here. GOG didn't give a reason why and we later got a response that there were technical issues, but didn't mention of what kind.
From my knowledge the Mac performance is pretty poor, but Linux? It runs pretty well Check out for yourselves!, There's even a triple screen video showing the game natively on Linux.
3) Too Niche / Refused Games.
In December of last year this thread came up, it mainly focused about a game called "Fall of the Dungeon Guardians" which GOG refused to sell here, whatever the reason was. It isn't the first game to be refused by GOG either, user Barry Woodward made many threads regarding such refused games and the devs all seemed to get a similar robotic response.
Then at some point GOG releases a game which doesn't seem much better than the ones they refused not long ago. (I'm not implying Punch Club is a bad game btw).
4) Communication (This is for Mac and Linux users mostly).
As I said in the beginning of this thread, you used to be very communicative with your community, which has now dwindled down a lot. I am not saying you should have someone sit on the forums all day but there's a certain lack of communication from you, one major point of this is missing Mac and Linux versions. You tend to release games only on Windows, which have Mac/Linux versions elsewhere and you don't mention why these versions are missing. It would be appropriate to put a small notice on each game's release announcement describing the reason why.
So what am I aiming at here? Get your act together GOG, you've turned many of the wrong things right in the gaming world of today and yet you're falling short on little details that may impact a person's view in a negative way. You can do better than this.
