justanoldgamer: I was not in the running to get a freebie but I think it is unethical (and probably illegal in many countries) to stop giving them away for every 10 buy without letting us, the clients, know in advance that quantities were limited.

The_Blog: I think they definitly should have written on the main page once they get into the critical area. I mean I can understand when they run out, but let us know. Don't pull the rug beneath out feet.
Not only would that have been useful, but I'm pretty sure it would have triggered an even greater slew of impulsive purchases by people close to getting their freebie.

Edit: dang.. 2 rockstars hasn't done me very well. I'm having serious troubles with grammar

I just hope the sale isn't winding down already. My paycheck hits sometime tonight, then I can hopefully grab up a few more of these great deals. But, if not, I already got 7 games at incredibly low prices, so I'll survive. ;)

angel7000: its ok. the freebies were pretty bad either way I'm in for the savings.
also now we get a free shitstorm :D

Pretty unnecessary one from gogs point of view, but we can enjoy.
"Buy 10 games to get freebies"

i.e. no freebies for people who already own a large segment of the catalogue as it is less likely they will even be offered 10 games they don't already own..

Oh, and then they ran out, making it even more biased against those who have sizeable collections because meeting the requirements would naturally take longer for them.

Thanks GOG!

The_Blog: They did. But they did not tell they get into the critical area. Unless ofcourse I missed something. It is more about the people who bought games expecting a freebie and then stared at the We are out of games text.

flammenbringer: They did say they were almost out of stock in this thread.
Then I missed that, but even then not everybody checks out this thread. The mainpage would have been a safer bet.

Yes... AFTER I had already qualified for my free game... that I never got.

So it seems they weren't "almost" out, they were out, but didn't tell anyone.

Yeah, if we wanted to get all excited with a huge letdown, we'd be on Groupees.

yep same here, didn't get the freebie either and I qualified long before they were officially out...
Was 1 game short to get a free extra. Shame but the last games I was looking for didn't show up again in time.

I agree that it would have been nice to indicate the amount of free extras available on the store where they were teasing oh just 1 ore to get a game... :D I mean if they can track the sales of individual game packs for the sale they should be able to track their own free games stack.

The funny thing is without a free game teased and so closed I wouldn't even feel cheated, its just that I was so close.

But still I regret nothing since they even had games (Subterrain) in the rotation and that is otherwise only listed as "comming soon" so we got it early.

Not really early, you can also just buy it normally:
https://www.gog.com/game/subterrain

It is just missing the official release, but it is already here.

j0ekerr: Hurm. World in conflict at keast looks pretty.
What is it actually like?
It's great. If you're an RTS vet however you might find it rather easy but it's very atmospheric and certainly brings back '80's nostalgia especially the movie Red Dawn.

I loved carpet bombing runs and of course the gorgeous 'nuclear option'.

My favourite thing about it though is that Alec Baldwin narrates the campaign mode.
youd think theyed gift ya a freebie or 2 up to 9.99 .............

nightshade2013: youd think theyed gift ya a freebie or 2 up to 9.99 .............
now that would be something. The twitch channel gift codes :D I'd like one of those as a freebie ... (there are no raffles during the insomnia though, I think)
I think I just twigged what was different for me this sale -- there was no real "insomnia" bit, despite the title.

Everything was repeating so often that I managed to sleep each night, and still buy everything I wanted.

I guess The_Blog was right -- the sense of "comradeship" seemed have been lost. :-(

There was a little bit of warning in at least 2 different threads (this one, and some french thread I someone had linked). Granted, it wasn't a precise warning, more like "Looks like we're running out of freebies in the next several hours. If you're close, better start looking to get over the line".

We'll see what happens if freebies don't roll out to those who made the mark before the "Oh noez, freebies are all gone!" text was up. I beat the mark for my last freebie by maybe an hour (went for a 30 minute walk, and the message was up when I came back), though I haven't seen it yet.

I'm wondering if some of the delay is because we're dipping into the next day's stock of not-yet-in-rotation freebie titles (assuming there is a next day).
