The_Blog: 2. There was a set rotation, this encouraged comradery.
I forgot about that. That was something I did really enjoy in the previous sales.
No freebies mean there's not going to be a day 4?

Oh, man! I've seen the Kyrandia pack 3 times before and couldn't get it because I was included mistakenly in the GOG fraud block system.

Now I can't see it anymore, even after 3 hours of vigilance, and think I lost the opportunity.

blakstar: Oh well, I bought my 10th game 3 hours ago, before it said that the freebies had run out, and didn't receive any code.

Still, I guess, my way of looking at it is "at least I got a bunch of good games for a fraction of the original price." :-)

Mind you, and I'm not sure why, but this particular Insomnia Sale didn't quite seem to have the air of anticipation or excitement that the older ones did.

jseeley150: I was happy about that. I was really pleased about the "Oh, cool, a guaranteed freebie" instead of the "Oh crap, I hope I manage to get the freebie and not blink when it comes up" moments of the previous sales. I just wasn't happy at the buggy nature of it, however anticipated it was given the previous sales.
I certainly agree about the bugginess -- I simply ended up clicking on every game at one point, just to find out what was being sold! At least GOG sorted that out fairly quickly.
Getting screwed by not getting the free game could be worse, I suppose.

Could have gotten "digital jar of jam" Groupees-style.

Or "ball and stick" Humble-style.

At least those are anticipated.

The_Blog: I think there are mutliple reasons for this:
1. They changed the freebies. Previously you had to click and had a chance for a freebie, here you have to buy games for that. It encouraged people to stay awake.
2. There was a set rotation, this encouraged comradery. People looked for each others games because they knew the game had to come up atleast once more. This time it is completly random and the game go away super quick. On one side I actually like that, but stuff like the keaning made the whole thing really memorable. People writing funny reviews just to get people buying the game and just buying stacks of the game and giving it away to bring down the counter.
I think there were 2 sets of games. The original set (which i saw go by only once) and the rotation to get rid of the allocated freebies (since the freebies didn't move as fast as the deals). I think some 3rd parties asked to have their games run through once or twice as well, since i am seeing minor changes in the rotation.
I was not in the running to get a freebie but I think it is unethical (and probably illegal in many countries) to stop giving them away for every 10 buy without letting us, the clients, know in advance that quantities were limited.

I think they definitly should have written on the main page once they get into the critical area. I mean I can understand when they run out, but let us know. Don't pull the rug beneath out feet.

It was written that they were limited.
We only expected them not to be so limited.

They did. But they did not tell they get into the critical area. Unless ofcourse I missed something. It is more about the people who bought games expecting a freebie and then stared at the We are out of games text.
Hurm. World in conflict at keast looks pretty.
What is it actually like?
Freebies got wolfed down, on the third day? Seriously GOG? Someone should do some math before the next sale, that wouldn't have been hard to calculate for an 8th-grader.
By the way, those aren't really freebies, if you have to buy 10 games to get them, but rather bonuses - just saying.

They did say they were almost out of stock in this thread.

Definitely. They should have stopped announcing the freebies (even worse: encouraging us to buy more games to get them!) well before they ran out of them, not hours after.

It's very sad that they use such shady methods just to push sales.
