tfishell: Erm, well, actually, I only ever had a few text documents sharing the stuff I had been working on and the games from publishers we already had here. Sorry, I don't remember what you're referring to. :P
Sorry if I'm misremembering, seems there was a doc you had shared out via Dropbox a while ago that had notes in it. Probably the same doc I'm talking about if so, only I had the wrong impression of the contents. :)

I mean that's an excellent idea, and one I probably should have been doing from the start. But unfortunately since I am having to cut back on this I'll probably have to ask someone else to take care of it, if they want to. :P
I sent an email to taketwo about releasing Nocturne and Martian Gothic Unification here hopefully something comes from it.
Keep going guys. Efforts appreciated :)
Well, I finally got over the terror that comes with writing to a lawyer and sent off a missive to Dr. Schiebe about Project Nomads. Will let you know if anything comes from it, or if I'm extradited to Germany for asking the wrong questions. ;)

Here are some tips I probably should have mentioned earlier. ;) Some may be far more obvious than others.

Showing an interest is definitely a good thing, but I wouldn't recommend necessarily going after the "big-wig" publishers that aren't here, at least spending a lot of time sending emails of support. I think it's good to perhaps "remind" them of GOG's precense and show there really is interest in their titles appearing here, but rest assured that GOG is trying to get them here too.

I'd suggest seeing if there are any "abandonware" titles you like or you think would be a good fit for GOG, ones whose publisher seems to be "small-ish", or might have gone under and the rights reverted back the original developer team (Starting out on this I went through 80-ish pages of Abandonia and a significant portion of Home of the Underdogs).

For abandoned titles, finding some names that worked on the title is always good. Social media can help you get in contact with these people - Facebook, Twitter, and especially LinkedIn. I'd be careful how you use LinkedIn, though, as it is technically a site for professionals looking to advance their careers. See if they have any contact info under the drop-down button, and use that if you can (like a personal website). I have used the message option numerous times, although I do think that should be a last resort. (Putting your email in a LinkedIn message is recommend by me so they can email you if they want.)

If you're worried about going after games we've already tried to cover (although it wouldn't necessarily hurt to email the same people as it shows 2x the interest), you can use GOG's search engine to see if their name seems to pop-up in the thread. (Search from the main forum, then see if that name is associated with "The search for game rights...")

EDIT: Oh, and for pre-1998 or so games, it's probably best to focus only on those that have DOS versions or 3D games that could utilize 3Dfx/Glide. I mention this because GOG is limited in how far they can make old games compatible, and DOS versions can be bundled in DOSBox and 3Dfx games bundled with nGlide.

Thanks for the advice and tips :)

tfishell: Piranjade must know German, and I'm sure several other members here do. You can try PMing them about it. Maybe even one of the GOG staff knows German.
*raises hand* I'm kind of back.
And I'm a German law student. And E_A is a German lawyer. So yeah, if we're allowed in a again to help we would like to try again. Real life is continuing to be very tough though in several areas but we'll try to be more reliable (if less available). *puppy eyes*

"German lawyer" always makes me think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8_VopD7OSw

Ta Piranjade, I may ask you to engage Dr. Schiebe if my own inquiry goes nowhere. If so, perhaps your law experience will give you a different, better tack with which to approach the issue.

tfishell: I've been told on a few occasions that certain games (and one full catalog of too-old titles) were rejected after I made contact with the companies, I think as Turnipslayerr's way of suggesting I focus more on games higher up on the wishlist or more objectively good titles. (This was when I was going through Abandonia and probably not using as much discretion as I should have.)
Yes, given the niche/unknown status of the game in question, that is in fact what I'm worried about. I'm basically afraid Quirk will think me an idiot for suggesting it if he approaches GOG at my request and is then turned down. I want the game here, but I don't want to waste his time or get his hopes up (mine too, for that matter) only to have them dashed.
anyone can track Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland? Chances are EA (I hope), Microsoft or a separate Goosebumps licenseholder entity.

that means there are no obvious legal obstacles for a release here :)

One would have to get RL Stine's company's okay to use "Goosebumps", though. (You could try emailing them.)

Certainly your choice. I've gotten my personal hopes dashed once fully (as in the game was flat-out rejected) and another time partly, so if there's an emotional attachment it can be tough to see GOG reject it.
