tfishell: the Dragon Lore games (isn't there more than one?)
There's at least two from what I remember. Good choices for GOG.

RaggieRags: I do wonder if we could up the chances of seeing bigger publishers and stuff like the older D&D games if we'd start a some sort of mailing campaign to ask them to join GOG? To my understanding one of the major obstacles is that the bigger companies don't really care about their backlog. They have all these old IPs that came with company purchases and they don't think it's even worth the effort to start digging them up. Maybe if people showed them there's actual interest and their backlog has some value after all...?

tfishell: In the case of the older D&D games, I think it's a matter of bringing Ubisoft (who owns the SSI titles), Hasbro (who owns the rights to the board games or misc D&D stuff, I guess), Wizards of the Coast (who bought the TSR rights), and GOG together in some fashion to work out the re-releases.

I'm not particularly interested in spam-messaging a bunch of people or companies, since I feel like that would be a waste of time and resources.

However, I'm willing to take the time to create a petition for these re-releases on http://www.change.org/petition, and try to promote that a bit on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Unfortunately we probably wouldn't see any interest unless the petition got tens of thousands of votes.
Hasbro actually owns Wizards of the Coast who got the D&D rights from TSR before Hasbro bought them

Ahhhh, okay, so it seems GOG would have to bring Hasbro and Ubisoft together, two superpowers who each probably want the bigger piece of the pie or just don't care. :P We have both on GOG, but getting them to work together is probably something GOG hasn't been able to do yet.

Yeah and the 2 Buck Rogers games are even more screwed because someone (probably pretty major) owns the rights to 'Buck Rogers' as a character too!

I wonder, though, if Hasbro got the rights to the old Microprose Magic The Gathering game back from Atari (unless it went to Frixis / Take 2) Saying that I'm not sure they'd want it to be drawing focus from the MMO Magic Online client and the Duels of the PLansewalkers series...

It's possible they either want to keep the focus on those games or don't want to use up resources resurrecting any old ones. Bah.

I'm guessing Barry already did this, but I noticed Cave Story+ is reasonably high up on the wishlist, so I sent a tweet to
https://twitter.com/nicalis about the possibility of it coming to GOG. http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/cave_story

I'm assuming what's holding back Revenant are compatibility issues, which is really too bad because the the game looks incredible!

Does anyone know if Revenant had Glide support back in the day? I went ahead and posted the question there, but maybe somebody else can answer it here, too.

I get confused between that and that other Eidos game that looks really good - The Last Remnant - the other day I noticed that Steam has a demo or trailer or something for The Last Remnant still but the game is no longer on sale, as far as I could tell...

Edit - never mind, seem to be on sale now again!

I don't know if anything could be holding back Freedom Fighters from coming here. (I loved that game.) I'm assuming EA has all the PC publishing rights (although Wikipedia says IO published for the PS2 and in the EU, so I'm not sure how problematic that would be). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Fighters_(video_game)

And the engine used is the Hitman 2 engine, so if GOG can get H2 for sale here surely they can bring this one also.

Oh right, Freedom Fighters, I was thinking of Freedom Force then, still a bit weird that GOG only has the Vs 3rd Reich sequel as Steam has both and sell them as a pack sometimes...

I guess 2K Games is the publisher on Steam. If we do happen to get Take 2 as the next big pub, surely it would show up then.

---------------------------

Another shoutout for the Laura Bow games: The Dagger of Amon Ra has over 500 votes on the wishlist, and this should be Sierra/Activision-owned material. A bundle of 1 & 2 would be good for 5.99 I think, but sadly I'm guessing Activision probably doesn't care enough to talk to GOG about these (and Freddy Pharkas, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer_%28video_game%29, etc.)

Yep, and Codename: Iceman the 2 'Conquests' games - of the Longbow and 'of Camelot' and the Earthsiege mech games, off the top of my head!
Got LinkedIn this morning with Jason Kingsley of Rebellion. They already have games on GOG, so it's a known relationship. I'm going to message him and see if he has any interest in releasing Blade Warrior here. If nothing else it would make a nice free game for GOG to give away.

I always find it a bit odd that they've got Judge Dredd here but not Rogue Trooper too!
(sorry for responding to each and every post to this thread, BTW!)

That is a curious omission. Perhaps GOG feels JD has enough brand recognition to appeal globally whereas RT may not.

I just realised that I need to try Blade Warrior in DOSBox before I ask for its release. If it suffers from the same "DOS version is worse than the Amiga version" issues as First Samurai, then may not be worth bringing over.

It's fine if you have something you want to add. :) I've been posting erratically because I'm being a little cautious about what I share, sometimes spilling the beans and other times staying tight-lipped for GOG's sake.

I'm also waiting for Piranjade's husband to finish up the database, whenever he has the time. That should organize our efforts much more efficiently.

Speaking of Judge Dredd, I think that might be one people have struggled to get running, for your other thread, I'll check out its forum later...
