BKGaming: Yes but it's different when you work for a big company like GOG. As a lonely developer would be assigned projects and would only be working on those projects alone or in a group spending on the size of the projects. Anything not assigned to you would require permission and then probably code approval before it can be pushed to the live site seeing as most time development like this is all done locally.

Basically there are butch of hoops to jump through even to get small things like this changed...

Yeah I am still a student so I don't know these things :p

I am SO sorry. =)

Rep was useful (even if not perfect) to identify such bad people.
The problem is that Gog never addressed the exploits to the system (alts, rep scripts, impersonators, etc).
Removing the rep would just make crappy alt accounts identical to legit ones.#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:41#Q&_^Q&Q#

You always base your ideas about the forum only on your own personal experience O_o
There are a bunch of people here.. you didn't have issues, but various other users had them.

Let's say someone creates a new user to impersonate you in order to scam me. They'll use the same avatar and have a similar-looking name. They might be able to scam me if I am spectacularly naive. There might be a few people with that level of naivete, but generally people are not gonna fall for this.

If you want a sure-fire way, how about displaying your post count, as opposed to your rep. For long-time users it's a bit harder to fake and is certainly harder to bring down overnight with a cup of coffee and a script.

This shows that you haven't been on Gog that much in these years.
(frankly, I only know you mostly due to Jerkmuter in these months. And I check the forum daily)

A ton of people have been scammed here. And before the alert thread, scammers even entered giveaways (with alts) to resell free gifts. -_-

avatar
It's not enough.
Trolls post a lot and some people posted 1000 times 1 word in a single thread.
Does this make them legit users? Not much.
We'd need a system that considers various variables.

If post count is not good enough, then rep is most certainly not good enough.

And to be honest, there are people who will always get scammed no matter what. I mean, there are people who respond to the Nigerian Prince and give him their bank account. There is no cure for that.

Still, if you want a more or less absolute protection, a user number will do it. Unless you get hacked, but then you got bigger problems. The sad and unfortunate truth is that people won't look at that number even if it's displayed right under (or above) your avatar.

Come on, you cannot dismiss the need of an improved system by using some absurd extreme example.

The problem is more like that the number (and the correct name) aren't displayed in chat.
That's the Nth way that the current broken system has been exploited.

Wasn't planning to. =) It's pretty much a given that improvements are necessary. All I'm saying, is that keeping the rep system is not one of those improvements.

blotunga: Maybe at least you guys could add a rep < abs(5) check to the link post restriction instead of rep < 5, people would stop worrying about it altogether.

tinyE: How about just get rid of rep period?
Seriously, I don't want to be a prick and I am wiling to cut them some slack on booting people given the circumstances, but there are so many little things they could do that they keep blowing smoke up our asses about.

Get rid of the rep, maybe close of few of these spam war threads; it would take five seconds and at least show people like me (and the myriad of the other people fleeing this shit hole) that they are trying.

THREE YEARS they have been promising me they are getting rid of rep. THREE YEARS. I'm now down over 1100 because of someone who openly tried to extort me (hello delete that account, even if it is one of 50 of his alts, throw a dog a bone and show me you are are really working here) and nothing.
Instead of waiting for gOg to do anything, I just got rid of rep myself by using an addon which removes it, makes life on gOg much easier.
Don't do it man. Don't take my rep away.

It's all I've got, man. It's all I'm good for.

tinyE: it's easier and safer just to get out of the forum
In droves, as it were.

zeogold: I mean, at least you're doing more than many others have done so far and actually been reaching out to and actively interacting with the community. It's what we've always asked for, and now that we get it, this is how we respond...*sigh*...
Actually, We've had it before. His name was TheEnigmaticT and he was a great community overseer and a pretty awesome PR person as well. He hung out in the forums, and on the unofficial GOG IRC and did a series of videos for GOG detailing upcoming releases.

He also wasn't afraid to call out trolls and I'm pretty sure, once upon a time at least, the staff could lock forum posting but let them keep their games. If GOG wants a staff mod for the forums, they need to give them those mod privileges. From what it sounds like, those mod privileges are gone (?!?) and now it sounds like it might be better to just update the forum to something more modern and start from scratch all-together. Maybe something that doesn't link their GOG account and forum account together would be a good start?

fables22: Honestly, don't feel sorry for me. I know there was going to be a lot of hostility and possibly also hate, and so far it's not been more than I can handle. It's a shame that this is where we're at now, but I still think we can get out of it alive :)

BKGaming: I can understand some of the complaints around here (and the forum/rep it a big one) and I am guilty of this myself, especially with the Galaxy team. However, Fables you have been great in my opinion at interacting with the community, not only on the site but also on /r/gog, etc,... so thank you for that.

I think many of us just feel as if GOG is slow to respond to our complaints and that GOG lacks communicating in many regards, but at the end of the day most of us realize you guys are just people like us working for a large company where the right hand may not always know what the left hand is doing. :)
Thanks, really appreciate it. While some people on the forum can be a pain, so far it's still be out-weighed by people who appreciate what I do and actually have the courage to come out and tell me I've done an OK job so far. Hopefully as time goes by I will have more to show for it too.

Yes, the two-way communication on here isn't always great, but again, that's something I'm hoping can change.

hi, i'm not sure what your job description is but i think it's cruel gog employed a single person to handle community issues. i get that old gog team cares about money more than the community, but to employ one person to take on indirect insults and problems is wrong. if i had to do it i'd probably need therapy. i think they should employ a team to handle such issues. wish you all the best.
