Goodaltgamer: grammar
avatar
ashwald: Oh the grammar is fine. I learned the basics back when I was in school and I've got a bunch of books for it too. Words however. Words...
Words... don`t come easy .... :D

avatar
ashwald: I've been using offline ones actually. It all comes down to my trying to learn german the same way I learned english: grab a bunch of untranslated books/videogames and the dictionary and get down to it.

...........................MAJOR failure.
avatar
Goodaltgamer: Yes and no, at least you get a good vocabulary, but for grammar, you still have to learn it. And for grammar German is not to bad.

IMHO:
German: lot of rules, hardly any exception
English, few rules, few exceptions
French: few rules, lot of exceptions.

And the exceptions are the hardest ones to learn ;)

Maxvorstadt: You want long German words? Here you are:

Goodaltgamer: Bild?
No, my AdBlocker is not BILD compatible, so I have the luck that I`ll never stumble upon what this cheap site has to say.
No, those words are German Laws or "Verordnungen" (Don`t know the english word for Verordnungen).

Are you implying I love you? I mean, I don't hate you or anything, but... :P That song is a little too mellow incidentally.

Verordnung: Did you never play Tropico? edict ;)
I saw those words on Bild, hence my assumption.

If it is just about the words, see, there is the advantage of German:

You know Wand, you know Uhr, so you know a third one, Wanduhr ;)

ashwald: Regulations?
= Regelungen, Vorschriften. Not really the same

As in English, edicts and regulations are not the same, although they are nearly identical.

The words thing was a joke, because you were searching for words.
Oh, and Goodaltgamer is right, it`s "Edict".

Or everyone using their mother-tongue ONLY and we would need to rely on our lovely online translators ;) That could get funny....

Schrijf alles alleen in hun moedertaal (ok, not too bad ;) )

Edit, why is it taal and not spraak? Or is spraak more a kind of dialect?
