Maxvorstadt: Hm, Zeogold said, that hose who solve the case on court day 2 or earlier get a special prize, but me doubt that this was possible, given the sparse infos we had then. Even now, I don`t have the slightest idea of wether the defendant is guilty or not!
I did it last game. I even think it's entirely possible it was doable this game - it may just require intuition and a leap of faith more than hard proof.

The question is really if, like the box, all the evidence pointing towards archie is a red herring and the solution involves either a double-bluff or some other random twist.

I could have submitted a viable guess on D1, but help off just because of the insinuations that there was a "surprise" in store. And while I have mild interest in the prize, like yogs I'd probably donate it if I won.

About the only game I'm playing right now is GemCraft, and probably another 100 hours before I "finish" it.

Yeah, bleep you by the way, thanks for rubbing it in. I'm still trying to convince the dev just to put the damn thing on itch.io at this point. I hate Steam so very, very much.

Right, I detect slow progress tonight, so I'm going to go hug something and sleep. G'night ladies (?) and gentlemen (?).

Heh. I do have some mild aversion to Origin, but it's more annoyance than burning hate.

yogsloth: @zeogold

How close to the correct explanation do you have to be to actually "win". (Note: I don't care about the prize, I'll donate that, I just want the fame, glory, and women that surely come with victory.) I assume even if you return the correct verdict, you have to have a logical explanation (via PM) that has to be close, right? But how close?

Given the lack of real evidence, I don't think it's reasonable to construct the facts of the crime yet, but I want to enter a verdict - I just don't know if it's worth it to do it now or wait for some kind of hope of shred of actual information...
You just have to be closer than everybody else.

Well, I guess I have to use the cheatcode I got from YouFraud.com

Cheat: EnableTwoEvidencesYeehaw

This gives us two evidences per day instead of only one. :-)
I may be misremembering here, but I never said anything about a special prize. Just, y'know, fame, pride, glory and the like.

And all that cheat code will do is summon Puzzle-Bot, and I'm not sure we want to know what evidence HE'S got...

Exactly. It's certainly possible, but it requires a decent amount of intuition as well as picking the right pieces of evidence.
For example, you guys probably could've saved yourself a lot of time had you not bothered with the box.
....unless the note in the box was relevant.
I'm not telling.

$20 for a 30-piece puzzle?! That's not sexy, that's a scam!

btw i happened to hear in my evening tv news about a small topic/documentary about theaters and the guies who handle projection booth and witch parts of movies in time

i couldnt help but think about the case here when listening to a guy there... he said that now, in most modern theaters, most of the stuff was connected with electronic switches from one central booth and it only needed one guy to switch each movie parts for several movies in chain; average cinema movie being 2h-2h30 long and usually 4 or 5 parts, during a change you would have to switch several movies part to the next one in 5 min time window in a row

i dunno in which kind of theater the defendant works, tbh, but for me, if he works in a decently tech updated theater like the one i saw, he doesnt have 20 whole minute of spare time between two changes, because he is juggling with several movies at once...

also this torn photo bugs me much; it would suggest she had another boyfriend. of course jealousy would be a mobile for crime.
now the way the supposed meeting between the victim and the defendant was set up (as described) sounded so calm/friendly, which (as someone noticed and told out) wasn't matching the level of anger the torn photo does suggest... well, would i be my maniacal paranoid self, i would even say that the victim was maybe setting up a trap to lethally dispose of the defendant to begin with. would that be the case, and would additional evidences at least hint of defendant"s presence at the time, he could even had "killed" the victim in legit self defense state...

sorry it's time for my funny pills because i'm supposedly paranoid... but i'm rather a skeptical one, only...

Your theories always intrigue me. I would insert a "heh" reference, but I think I'll leave that to Krypsyn.

Also, it's been recently brought to my attention that some of our friends from overseas might not get the "red herring" reference. Here in the states, a "red herring" is a false or misleading clue. Hence the pun of the red herrings being in the box, implying the evidence is useless.
...or is it?

my sorting of "game cancers" by increasing level of annoyance and hatred
bronze: origin (by itself it is not that bad, its most blatant flaw would be its master's brand: EA)
silver: steam, many issues about this one, long time unsolved issues, and some problems added directly by it's popularity, plus valve does a lousy job at communicating especially during crisis or screwups
GOLD tier: uplay. not only it's branded by an evil as despisable and hateworthy as EA, but also it has so manytechnical issues, not to mention the PC ports using uplay are games by its master, usually released at full price in alpha level

would i have to willingfully infect my regular computer with a cancer of my choice, it would be origin... a computer host can live long while infected by steam cancer provided it's in an isolated environnement
Sneaks back into court as the titular superhero Red Herring ;-)

Yeah, I was wondering what the red herring means.

Mind off a bit of the jargon over here but TVTropes is a good source to know about some of The Puzzlemaster's lingo:

I just hope there's no Chekhov's Gun anywhere like last time...
