timppu: It is like Christmas, it is supposed to be peaceful time with the people you love, but all you get is little kids screaming for not getting the gift they wanted, and intoxicated parents stabbing each other. Not cool.

Namxas01: What? You don't like that? That's my favorite part of Christmas (or any other family get together, for that matter). :D
ahahahhah.

Faenrir: Are you for real ? Isn't the magnifying glass icon a general search symbol recognized by...everyone ?
The search function on gog is great, you should try it.
And gog galaxy is still in development but it's clearly the best alternative to steam, right now, even though it's far from complete... If you like DRM free games, support gog and buy here. The site will continue to develop.
Hello, When using Galaxy to browse the store the only magnifying glass is on the left side of the ui and I tried using it but it only scans my games not the store games, There seem to be no magnifying glass for the store games when trying to find a game you want to buy via the Galaxy's Store ui.

As someone previously wrote it's best to use the store via a web browser not via Galaxy. So yes that is a work around but it is one example of something that needs improving with Galaxy and as the site continues to develop I imagine they want feedback like this.

My bad, didn't see anywhere that you were using Galaxy, i was referring to the website. It's not really a "workaround" for me as the client is pretty new compared to the website, which i have always used as i find it more convenient.

No worries, It seems that after entering the store if you then choose the browse games option in the store drop down section you get a window for searches on that page but that needs to be available on the main storefront page too.

How was this random user selected? Was I even in the drawing?

That's the REAL problem: I suspect the selection of the random user wasn't random at all.

nashathedog: Hello,
I currently do the majority of my gaming via Steam, however,
I would prefer to use a platform such as GOG where I control my game content and can't be cut off from it if Steam decides to insist on making me sign back in after a couple of days off no internet access, which happens more often than I'd like. I'm starting to think Steam have coded it so that if you do not sign in via the internet every 4 or 5 days it automatically locks you out until you do so again, but who knows maybe it's just my bad luck that this has happened the last 3 times I've had no internet for any meaningful length of time.

Anyway,
The point is, as I said I'd prefer to start getting my games via the DRM free GOG platform but here's the problem I have with GOG at the moment.

Galaxy is not user friendly.
As an example I booted up GOG today and went to the store to look for a game,
After spending a minute or two browsing the front page I started looking for a window to write the games name in but I can't find one.

It's certainly not as obvious as it should be, I tried using the window over on the left side of the store page but that's for searching the games I already own, so after a couple more minutes of trying to find a way to do it on the front store page I give up and move on.

It's not the only issue either, With Steam I enjoy the Steam achievements feature and it is one of the main reasons I predominantly use Steam, When I heard GOG was getting a similar feature I was pleased however this is also more complicated to use or browse over than it should be.

GOG is currently my smallest game provider of 4 I use with the other 3 being Steam, U-play & Origin.

Of those 4 GOG is the one I'd prefer to use but you don't make it easy to choose you, So please fix up the UI to make the store easier to use and the features more prominent.

Ease of use is the key and it is the reason GOG isn't my first choice,

I can't imagine I'm unique in this way so please fix up the kinks in Galaxy so we can all get on board.

All the best
David.E
I must disagree. I may have more Steam games, but not by much. With GOG, I can play without an Internet connection, with Steam, I cannot. VERY big deal for me. I am one who does not give two shites about achievements in Steam or anywhere else for that matter. The fact that the games are DRM-free is a really big deal for me, and the fact that GOG strives to bring back amazing old classics of the past, is just really really special. Plus, GOG has the best damned support around. Can't go wrong with GOG.

That got me to give it another look. Interestingly, based on the user interface and number of clicks, the actions turn out to be same for both the website and Galaxy.

On the website, the menubar at the top has at the far rightside a symbol of a circle with a line descending from the lower right of it, sort of like a "Q" (like in the word "query" or "question"). It has to be selected, such as by using a cursor placer (f.e. a mouse or a trackpad) for moving the cursor over the symbol and then clicking with the cursor placer. Then an area in the window opens up ready to accept typing for performing a search. After typing each character a list of results appears pretty much immediately, and without having to press the return key or enter key. So thats: move cursor, click, then type, then pause.

In Galaxy, the menubar has the word "STORE" in the menu, and hovering over it (but not clicking it) reveals a menu. Continue hovering the cursor over the revealed menu while moving the cursor to the item "BROWSE GAMES" and then click. This changes the appearance in the window into a listing of games, as well as automatically revealing an area ready to accept typing for performing a search. After typing each character a list of search results appears pretty much immediately, and without having to press the return key or enter key. So that's: move the cursor, click, then type, then pause.

Same actions, it just looks different in the window. While the information is from the same source (GOG), the applications are different: either web browsers made by web developers, or the Galaxy application made by GOG. That means there are different opportunities in each application, and so maybe they are not interested in being constrained by the limitations of one or the other.

I have a more substantial problem with Galaxy, I'm on a very, very slow connection and Galaxy is decidedly less efficient at making use of my limited bandwidth. Downloads are way slower, as if Galaxy is always downloading something else in the background. Even when game downloads are paused it chews up all my bandwidth, with nothing to show for it. Bigger downloads come up with a checksum error when using the downloader, so Galaxy is the only option and it sucks.

But my biggest issue with GOG that ensures it can't be my one-stop shop is the lack of sales. The Steam store seems to have disproportionately more sales, even given the difference in catalogue size, and of course then there are all the other key retailers and bundle sites, ensuring that you can always find something to your taste somewhere. On GOG, you may have to wait for months, with no recourse if you want a discount.

about the sales, do you check the weekly discounts? They usually put a bunch of games discounted up to 75%! There's a big sale right now with a lot of interesting games..

You know? I never found GOG to be that complicated without the client. Maybe I tolerate more steps but I do not find downloading an EXE file and letting it install that hard. Galaxy makes that even easier than I can imagine.
