Just wait for a sale, if the price is too high for your pockets.
Nowadays pretty much everyone has a backlog with games accumulated over the years, so it's nor like you gonna die of boredom waiting for a sale.
If you're one of the exceptions, you can waste time in different hobbies, it's not hell.
Steam is not the only solution for this 'problem'.
My problem with gog is the payment methods suck, use to be able to redeem prepaid cards of all sorts but not any more due to fraud. Ironically, gog payment processing center is located in Cyprus the capitol of fraud so my bank won't allow payments to them. G2A or piracy seems to be the best way to get gog games for me right now, however I trust the latter more.
