I'm aware of them, but I don't use them.

But in all the game forums I've frequented and with all the discussions on piracy, one can't help but be aware of these sites and what they're named, even if you don't ever visit them.

Well in my country it's common to use these sites, since half of the american tv series are never sold here :s

So I do use pirate bay... and you're quiet right, half of its content is illegal if not more...
But to download a TV Episode from a billion dollars making company coz u'r living in a third world country and they don't see it worth exporting the product their, and to steal from a small polish company who give access worldwide for a small world-flat price aren't nearly the same.
So don't blame the messenger. :S

Just saying if every body posts a message once in a while on pirate bay, it might have an effect, that's all.

how many would have been convinced? 1? 2? even if they say they are its still no prove they actually bought it. people convince themselve , most of the time when they noticed a game they downloaded is good and worth their money.

Really? Like they're too daft to go to a tracker and search for it themselves, DL link or not. If you're gonna do it and content to do it you're gonna do it.

Well I guess it's worth a shot. I mean, some folks may be looking for abandonware or somesuch but don't realize it's available legitimately. Not everyone who uses TPB is necessarily a hardcore lifetime pirate... plenty of them are just looking for one thing specifically. And if they end up liking the game, they may buy it for real. I know a couple of my friends use pirated copies of games to try them out because nobody makes demos anymore, and at least one of those friends is pretty good about actually buying the game if he likes it. (Not sure about the other one.)

But I wouldn't expect anything major to come of it.

I did that, actually, for the Tick, because both of the DVD releases are missing an episode, which I didn't realize until after I'd bought them. So I acquired the missing episodes. Apparently they weren't available on DVD because DC Comics was being douchebags about some name rights.

It's funny. I don't like Metallica but I would get a kick out of stealing everything they ever recorded just to do it.

This wasn't actually any attempt to start the piracy debate. It was a simple suggestion to combat piracy through raising awareness of the existence of GOG.

It's actually a nice enough idea although I doubt it would have much impact sadly. Personally I wouldn't go there for any reason, including this one because I don't trust such sites. I see the bunch of them as a good way to pick up some drive-by viral infection. Honesty is the best policy as they say.
