My twittfeed is hot with the current "story" of an indie dev replying to a random steamer saying his game shouldn't be priced at 20$.

Long dev answer:

And while I'm at it, just 2 weeks ago, we had the Firewatch drama where someone completed the game and refunded it. "Lenghty" (by internet standards) reply from a dev:

So, comments? At which price should our dear Barry set his Metroidvania game? Is Superhot super cool? Should I try the vegan Ikea meatballs?

I like your clear and concise style, upvoted!
The problem is that the current market is saturated with indie titles and like or not, indie bundles + sales has devalued the games.

Brigador - I made a thread about this game a while back and i do have the avatar about it so you can guess that i'm interested in the game, mechs + isometric view + awesome soundtrack. Did i paid the 20€? Nope, while i want to support the game i'm done buying early acess titles, whenever it comes out i'll buy it full price and support the devs, not only because the game looks good but because the devs are really cool.

Firewatch - Nope, i was really interested in the game but for what i've read the game is short, has framerate problems and the ending isn't great, no way i'm paying 20€ for that, i don't care how much was their budget and how much work they put into it.

Basically, make a game that is worth the price that you ask for.
You lost me at "twittfeed".
LOL had to twatter that steam crap into the #bin.

On a more sensible note, I do notice that prices are steadily rising, at least here on GOG, by a fair margin each release. Not just indie games but old ones as well. What do you get fo rthis, well multiple versions of the same things, DLC passes, pre-order, indev etc. All crap designed to extract the maximum amount of cash for minimum effort. Half the time what you get isn't worth it anyways. I doubt most feel this way though, the got to have new shiny mentality is strong, so yes, expect to see further price hikes, more nasty techniques for making money.

At the end of the day, things are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them.
So what's in 'twitfeed'?
Is it like oats and berries?
Judging from my buying behaviour, if it is a good game a lower price will bring them more money in the end. There are several games which I bought cheap or got in a bundle, but once I've completed and enjoyed them, I bought several copies and gave them away just to support the developer. Most of them I wouldn't have bought if the initial price would have been €20.

I was under the impression the framerate issues were limited to the console version, hmmm.

Shit, I wishlisted Firewatch as soon as I saw it.

I paid $30 for Gone Home retail box, felt like I could have spent it on something more useful, but wouldn't have wanted to. You can't really put a price on pricelessness.

Hotline Miami 2 was about the same, HERE, TAKE MY MONEY!!!

Uhm, could be, the posts that i've read didn't mentioned the plataform.
The price of games is an ongoing conversation, and an interesting one. At the end of the day, devs decide what their games is worth, and we choose to agree with our money or not. The problem for most developers, though, is the overcrowded environment of todays game industry and the sales mentality.

It sometimes works for them (The Witness $40 prize seems to have worked for them). At the end of the day, the market should regulate itself, and a big game crisis should come our way sooner than not. There's no room for the amount of games available. And there's no way any devoloper can live with games being as cheap as they are.

On the other hand, lots and lots of people are more that happy to drop $60 + a $40 surplus for fancy graphics and a rehash of broken gameplay. Marketing always wins.

The pc version should be fine. The devs released the game on ps4 and it turned out there were major framerate issues that they hadn't experienced on their devkits.

I would say at the end of the day, customers decide what a game is worth. Developers can think it is worth $30, but as long as nobody is willing to pay it, it is not.
