nightcraw1er.488: Totally off topic here, whilst I agree with you on mobile gaming and funnily enough it’s spread to pc too (think tempest, didn’t even bother changing the UI for PC). I do however have a list of games on ipad I would not be without (paid and free), such as stranger things the game and goblin sword which are not on pc, and ascension which is probably the one card game I have put more time into than any other. So it’s not all bad, just the vast majority of it, which you can generally filter out by “in app purchases”, “king, com” and such like.

Orkhepaj: Yeah, some games are nice, but they are very rare and most of those are not the micro fest free games but prepaid ones.
And some good ones are just ported from PC.
Try out Through the Ages, it is very good game for mobile. Dunno if it is available for apple products.
Oh yes, had that through the ages on my gog wish list for ages. Might get it for iPad then. I have the mage knight complete box set and that is great fun. Yep, it’s on istore.

Time4Tea: I don't have a problem with adult content in games, but if these smutty anime games are not 'good' games, then imo they shouldn't be here.
avatar
GamezRanker: I find this an interesting stance, seeing as you're the one who started the boycott GOG thread(which has the Devotion removal as one of it's issues).

So you don't want games removed from sale/barred from GOG due to "complaints of many gamers", yet are seemingly ok with games kept off of GOG if staff find them to not be "good"?

Imo, if one is going to hold a position/stance, they should at least try to be consistent across the board with said stance.
As Breja said, I don't see why it is inconsistent. In my mind, there is a clear difference between censorship and curation to maintain a level of quality. The first is about the content of the media, the second is about the quality. Those are two completely different things. Although I admit that 'good quality' is subjective and it might not always be clear when a game is excluded what the reasons are for it, when there is little or no communication.

The case of Devotion seemed to be quite clear-cut censorship though. GOG had already announced it's release, so it had clearly passed GOG's quality filter by that point. Also, it was very clear from the nature of the 'many gamer' complaints that their objection was to the content, rather than the quality.

avatar
Sabin_Stargem: That seems like a Trojan horse for concealed censorship. Making a good game is difficult, be it standard or perverted, but there is a clear bias by the powers-that-be against perversion. For no other reason than because it wins brownie points from people who can't stand the idea of people enjoying their sex lives.

In any case, perverted developers are no different from standard ones, in that they need to practice their craft in order to produce masterpieces. That means many failures, iteration, and just plain luck to catch a big break. Your "standards" exist to throttle fledgling developers in the crib.

I want to experience the highest quality games, and they won't ever existence if developers have to give up the trade.
No, it really isn't. As I mentioned in my reply above to GamezRanker, there is a clear difference between content and quality. I have no problem with adult content in games. I'm fine with Leisure Suit Larry and the sexual content in the Witcher games, as examples. If someone makes a legitimately good JRPG that includes sexual anime content, then for sure bring it here. But I haven't seen or heard of any such examples.

Your argument against having quality standards seems a bit like saying that prime time cable TV channels should have to devote air time to every amateur who is making movies/TV shows in their basement. I.e. they shouldn't be allowed to maintain a standard of quality on their platform. Plus, your argument about enforcement of a quality standard stifling fledgling developers falls a bit flat when you consider the surge of indie gaming over the past 10 years and the large number of indie game developers who are making games that are high enough quality to be on GOG.

GOG has been for many years a curated store of good games, where people don't have to wade through oceans of low-quality trash to find what they want, like they do on Steam. There is a platform for low-quality hentai games and I'm sure those that want them can easily find them. But that platform is not here.

Beg pardon?

What store have you been shopping at?

Even the direct inspiration for Cyberpunk is here.

I never said the system was perfect and, as I said, 'good' is obviously somewhat subjective. I'm sure there will be some examples of 'bad' games in there somewhere. Personally, I would be in favor of GOG actively curating and removing 'bad' games from the store. In fact, I would like to see any game that gets a less than 3 verified owner score (after a certain min. number of reviews) be added to a list to be considered for removal. (although, it might be worth keeping some 'bad' games if they are part of a larger series, for the sake of completion)

One that I very much think should be removed, if GOG's curation is to be taken seriously (given it has been abandoned unfinished by the devs):

Yes I can agree that if a game is deemed bad don't remove it if its a part of a larger ip and I'd say don't refuse it if its part of a larger ip if its drm free on the single player side

Right. Ultima IX would probably be considered 'bad' by most people's standards, but it would be silly not to have it, given that it closes off a series of games that has been a major historical influence on CRPGs.

probably the only acceptable reason to let those games in

Agreed .. still on that note I don't get why some games on here start with a game after the first one if the first one had a pc port and had the same owners as the other game put out at the same time on here .. As I have found some that seem to not have ant License or legal hold ups as far as I can tell.. I get it when its not got a pc port and the other factors preventing it though.. ya know?

But ya honestly I own several games I would see as ''poor'' or ..''passable'' at best all because of wanting the complete series and see it through if possible(So long as they have a single player side to things anyway

I slightly disagree but fair enough as I can't think of really anything worth while to discuss in a way that'd make sense my disagreement at this time .. As I do know many what some would call 'bad '' games for being a handheld or mobile port to pc.. Despite the ones I see on here are good ones for the hardware they was made for.. While others see ''JRPGS'' as bad just because of the sterotype they get.. So I ain't sure how to actually discuss such matters in a way that makes sense here

I hadn't seen that one before, but yeah! Make it walk the plank! :-P

Crosmando: As anyone can tell you, Steam is being overrun by hundreds of low quality anime smut games which only tarnish it's brand and force good games to struggle more to be noticed inside the pile of stinking garbage.

Is it only a matter of time before GOG opens the floodgates and this store is flooded with smut? What can good upstanding gamers who aren't degenerate sex weirdos do so GOG can remain pure?
Fun thing about it is you can filter them off your list. At this point, I reckon you just like a little bit cartoon bitty!

I have plenty of JRPGS like Dragon's Dogma or Fell seal , most jrpgs are just bad thats all. They have unoriginal ugly styles, and I hate those.
Most stereotypes are true btw.

No most are actually good if one likes the genre of games JRPGS usually are .. and but my reference on the games in question of JRPGS has a sterotype of games that are filled with pefophila and only for pedophiles .. Which is not true its similar to the myth/stereotype of ''violent video games cause violence in the real world'' when that stereotype and other sterotypes like ''FPS games causes a person to be a real life shooter '' has long been debunked among other crude on video game stereotypes

Turns out there are a lot of simps out there. Being beautiful is easy mode. Just shake your butt on camera or draw something people can simp to and you have it made in modern society. Better than getting an education that leaves you with crippling debt. The world feels upside down.
