--Original announcement--
Piñata Madness is back – meaning excitement, mystery, and exceptional deals on some of our favorite hand-picked titles.

What is Piñata Madness?
For $3, you can buy and smash your own digital Piñata, each holding one of 100+ mystery games worth anywhere from $5.99 all the way up to $44.99.
Visit your <span class="bold">Pinata hub</span>, where can buy, open, and see everything Piñata Madness!
Just like real-life Piñatas, they'll bring you joy, surprise, and reward. Unlike real-life Piñatas, ours drop really good games instead of candy – games like Pillars of Eternity, Shadow Warrior 2, Heroes of Might and Magic, Victor Vran, and more!
It's a great way to broaden your horizons and try out games you otherwise wouldn't, knowing you're always getting a deal that's worth it. And if you already own every game included in our Piñatas, each game you drop will be a giftable code so you share the joy with your friends.

Weekly Megasale
If you'd rather know exactly you're getting, check out the Weekly Megasale featuring great deals up to -90% on some of our favorite titles including Darkest Dungeon, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Heroes of Might and Magic III, and more!

The Piñata Madness and Weekly Megasale last until August 21, 2017, 9:59 PM UTC.

elcook: Looked into your issue - both of you have loads of GOG games, congrats!
Apparently our system didn't work for you, and didn't inform you that the next purchase will be a gift code because you own everything in Pinatas for the moment (we'll be adding even more games later today and on Friday). Did you buy Pinatas one-by-one or in bulks?
Hah. I was starting to wonder if it was something like that.

I've been actually buying in blocks of five, and stopping when I get a duplicate. Yesterday the first five were new, and the second block was all duplicates. Today, I got one new and four duplicates. But, I've been checking the checkout for any messages after adding the first and never seen anything.

I have to say, now that the pinata sale works (for me at least) it is a great sale :) (for me at least)

got my refunds for the duplicates and had none more until it said: Congrats you own all the pinata games
so that I know that I should stop now.
Thank you gog, for fixing and making it a fun sale :)

try buying the pinatas one by one (wallet is great for that) and look at the banner each time before buying: see screenshot

I was trying that earlier in the week, but I've gotten full blocks of duplicates and not seen that message. I expect buying a block could result in some duplicates, since I'd guess they're checking for number of games in available pool and not in user library > 0, not > number of piñatas in user's cart. But I should never see entire orders of duplicates (whether one or more) and not see that message if things were working right.

But, it sounds like there was an additional glitch affecting people with "large" libraries. I'm now seeing that message, so I guess it got fixed. Hurray, thank you!

Sorry I missed it. We won't be adding any games to the sale this week - we're adding more game to Pinatas, so sorry about it.
I cannot directly say what are the plans for next sales on GOG, but you might actually be onto something - be sure to check our upcoming sales ;)

Yep, it was affecting users with a whole lot of games in their libraries, and should be fixed now. Thanks for all the support and sorry for trouble!

Great . I have to wait for months . :(
From the FAQ:
Can I get duplicates of games I already own?
Short answer: No duplicates! You'll only get games you don't already own.

Long answer: No duplicates, unless you already own every single game available in the Piñata pool at the time of your purchase. If you already have all the games, you'll be notified before checking out and your mystery game will be converted into a giftable copy – this code will never expire.
Are you notified before checkout? No, you are not (see attachment).

Well, technically... It's before checkout, innit? xD

Ah, technically correct, the best kind of correct! :)

EDIT: It is still possible to not get a warning though. Add last pinata to cart, switch to another tab to look at cart and checkout. Buy another Pinata from the original pinata screen (which still won't have a warning), checkout.. checked out duplicate without seeing a warning.

EDIT #2: Actually, I see the banner on the front page changes from Buy to Gift if I refresh, so it may automatically update the original page once you have them all, even if you don't refresh it.

On Apr 11 2017 I bought them all at 80% off so you may still get a good deal when they put them on sale again.

Well GOG does have their weekly sales, so you may not have to wait for months after all.

drd7of14: Hey elcook,

I was wondering what titles were included in the refund for being valued under the $3 on sale, at time of pinata purchase. I have a few games, but I didn't know if any of them were included, since the sales prices have since been adjusted.

I do remember having at least 1 that was under $3, and then a bunch others that were $2.99.
avatar
elcook: If you're in the US you shouldn't be affected by this issue - it was for regional pricing in different regions.
avatar
DeadFishEye: There is a possibility for thematic piñatas? For example, piñatas which only "contain" games of the same genre?
avatar
elcook: We'll definitely think about adjusting next Pinatas, and maybe adding genres or themes, etc. Thanks for the feedback.
avatar
MarkoH01: Which is the case for EVERY game purchased on GOG according to GOG's own TOC.
avatar
elcook: That's correct, but not all users are aware of it, that's why I wanted to confirm it here.
An alternative for these themed/genre piñatas could be days where the piñatas will have a pool of a genre/theme. I don't know which approach would be better, if it come to be implemented, either from a bussiness or service side.

Yep, same here. And, as it's been a while since they've been on sale, you might not have to wait for too long. At the very latest, I'm sure they'll be in GOG's annual "Monstrous Fall Sale" which usually kicks off the first week in November. Only 11 weeks to go! :D

Damn you, GOG, for fixing the duplicate detection and adding new games to the Piñata pool. I thought my wallet was safe!
Just for my better understanding: has anybody tried to refund a pinata game because (s)he will not play it? Is it "no questions asked" or a technical reason (as I'd expect) is required?

N.B. I'll not refund the pinata games I don't want; my concern is the quality of the pool will get worse, see https://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_pinata_madness_sale_starts_now_98cd1/post439

Edit: And it's a bit tricky for me to decide to continue with the "mystic sale" considering the quality of the Pool is undisclosed by the rules of the game, as per Pinata FAQ:
"""
Will new games be added to the Piñata pool? *Is there a list of games*?
- Throughout the Piñata Madness, new games may appear. But the When and the What are just part of the mystery!
"""
(removal or depletion of games not formalized)
