Colourful icons, amongst others. Rejoice!

The "rejuvenation" of Windows.
Had to take a look at the current situation before understanding the changes, all so generic but then again perfectly understandable. At a certain point during Total War Warhammers 2 constant evolution aiming to be the previous best grand game of war ( the best one is of course Total War Warhammer 3 ) the developers decided not one but two times to switch the unit portraits. Much to the discontent of many of their veterans that still played their games. The last iteration is really an improvement, stepping away from the more comical approach started in the first game character portraits now do feel in line with the grim dark reality warhammer seems to love. Windows choice seems to be the opposite. Changing a business format to a , apple playground ?

"In recognition of the GPU shortages, we are redesigning the icons to feature only 2D sprites instead of full 3D objects. This is our small contribution to alleviate the hardships our users are experiencing."
I mean with Linux you could always easily change your icons, glad they are giving more options for Icons in windows.

If I remember though you could manually change Icons yourself but it is a slow and hard process.
Soo, they've added nothing?

They feel eerily like any number of Linux/MacOS icon themes. (See attachment.)

Seriously, wake me when they finally unify the whole of the visual design of Windows into one cohesive theme/design language.

The thing about Windows theming, and (re)theming is that they made it hard by denying access to basic tools. Most of the bigger icons are in DLLs instead of being publicly approachable.

I was born with it, one of the advantages of being born in Russia.
My mobile just updated and it also changed all the icons. This year is turning into an iconic one.
On the bright side, Marie Kondo says that colour helps. Meaning, with mood and everything. So making Windows desktops a tad more colourful might help a little with global mind health.

Wondering if they will release more than one theme (possibly).

How do you feel about round corners in the windows of PC interfaces?

I'm guessing the opposite, ie. these "heyyyy look at these colorful icons!" is just a red herring to keep people'a attention, while the other changes that MS wants to bring are something like "more telemetry and tracking" and other things people wouldn't necessarily want with their feature content updates.

Oh well, luckily for me Linux is a viable option for pretty much everything besides gaming (which I still mainly do on Windows, but not completely). I prefer selecting the most bare-boned and light GUIs like XFCE because, after all, for me the GUI is merely a place where to start (graphical) programs. The simpler it is, the better. Takes less memory then as well.

If similar to Windows 7, then that would be a good choice in my eyes. 7 had a pleasant design all-around. Starting with 8 many things went downhill. But seeing as 10 is such a mishmash of ideas and given the lack of cohesion, I'm not hoping for anything, perhaps more bloat, surveillance and the continuation of the in-your-face approach.
Overall, Windows 10 is the most inconsistent OS I have ever used. Sure, it has some good parts, but there is also so much crap in it, it gives one a headache and who knows what else.

As a Sway user, I do getcha. Most of the time, I want the interface to get the hell out of my way by choice.

Funny thing, I found KDE to be lighter than XFCE, well, on some distributions. Granted, it also depends on how many packages there are out of the box, let's say.
