It was a 3-in-1 bundle named "Battle Chess Special Edition", and its full price was $5.99.

Now they want to sell those 3 games separately, with the price $9.99 for each! WTF!

Other than nostalgia... Why would you buy such old chess games? I got the bundle long ago just because, but there's other newer free chess programs. I suppose the only advantage being it's animated...

Then again there's a N64 battle chess in 3D which... isn't very good to look at...

edit: Actually i'd gotten it for $2.99...

I'd wonder if GoG wouldn't push back and just say remove it off the storefront, and ask what improvements justify a 5x price increase?

But what do i know? I'm just a gamer.

Why are you even surprised about that? It's not as if Interplay didn't do the same thing before.

cough Descent cough

I bought the Battle Chess Special Edition six years ago at the historical low of $0.59. That it now costs almost $30 and will most likely be on sale for no more than 50% off is just the new height of shamelessness but sadly nothing new for Interplay at all.

How the mighty have fallen...

Yes that is incredibly lame. But as GOG seems to currently be on a path of less curation/rejection (such as bringing Succubus, Agony, Subverse, etc.), I'm hesitant to encourage rejection. I'd prefer to have them here and just not buy them (granted that's also easy for me to say because I've never been interested in these :p)

im in favour of not letting bad games in , best way to keep what you like is to not let others in

Some publishers need a reality check then when there are new (unused) budget label board game collection PC disc games (Chess + Backgammon + Mahjong + Dominoes, etc) on EBay for £1.50 + free delivery, even ignoring the hundreds of open source chess games floating around with generally better AI. I picked up my CD-ROM Battle Chess Collection (4 games) for £2.49 brand new & sealed inc postage (or £0.63 per game).

Let's be honest, as much as I love what GOG has done for the classic game industry, the real peak time to re-acquire older 80's-90's childhood games was in the early to mid 2000's before the great digital nostalgia grab took hold and drove prices of +10-20 year old games 5-12x higher than what the disc version were previously going for on Ebay on "Xplosive" style budget labels on the back of hilarious "lower distribution costs of digital games = cheaper games!" marketing tripe.

same with the other old games , i cant see why anybody would want to play those if they cant compete with current games , and if you already played them why play them again? just play a new game and support the devs not publishers

Interesting story: from what I heard, Zoom turned down renewing a contract for a game/partner as the ip holder wanted them to charge a bunch more money for some game(s). Zoom would've made more money, but they said "no thanks, our customers come first" and decided not to renew said contract. Prioritizing the customer over more money.....that is real class.

Side note: sometimes I feel the ip holders charge more on GOG to encourage more sales on steam/etc.

I have to admit, it's one of the oddest changes that's been made where a bundle gets broken up from the same company. You'd almost think 3 different entities hold the license to each game now.

Hopefully it doesn't become a trend. I did buy it back when it was still the "Special Edition", but it sucks for anyone wanting to buy now at 5x the price!

Someone mentioned the other day that they had played through the whole of cyberpunk and not encountered a single error. So apparently they can sell sht as good and get away with it, you think upping prices is any challenge. Perhaps there is added joins only content?

publishers do not sell games on Ebay, this are (for the most part) games sold by random people.
Weird, if I search Battle Chess, I can't even open the games page
