I thought of the name GOGAL but GOG-chan doesn't seem to fit into that subculture.

So, who flunked their Japanese Honorifics lesson? Chan is just a suffix added on to a name, akin to tan, san, sama, domo, and so on.

So you don't see the natural connection some might make to 4chan? And I see you think you are quite the expert on Jaoanese honorifics huh?

From the "chan" entry of wikipedia: "Chan" is only used between people who have known each other for a long time or who are of the same gender. Otherwise, using this for someone, especially adults, only known for a short period of time, can be seen as offensive.

To you, it might be "just a suffix" but words in a given culture tend to have specific meanings and usages. Which was my point. Picking the wrong suffix at the wrong time, can be offensive.

Okay, so what would you suggest, instead of just whinging on? There are several to pick from. I'd probably pick Tan myself, as from the OS-Tan series.

If you'd actually look back at my post, instead of just clipping it with your pointed criticism, you'd see I was asking if there was someone more knowledgeable on the subject.

Given we just came off a Game Journalism joke from a game that certain groups tried to link to Gamergate, I thought it unwise that the next major tweet use the word "chan" which someone could link to "4chan" with another Gamergate association.

This is ridiculous - the -chan part of 4chan (or any Japanese textboard or imageboard-style anonymous forum) comes from "channel".
