If people end up liking a track or two, maybe they will buy the game (well if it has bonus=soundtrack that is).
And maybe you can have links to buy the actual album in quality formats.
Maybe its something you are willing to look into.

Great work man. I haven't been updating my GOGmix soundtrack list so I'm really glad you have.

I've actually deleted my GOGmix. It just got way too big that the site's engine couldn't handle it. When I last updated and saved it, about 90% of it got removed for whatever reason.

I wasn't tending to it anyway and it got to be such a chore that I'm pulling the plug. Thanks for the mention though but you might want to go ahead and take my GOGMix down.

EDIT: Actually, I think I may create two GOGmixes. One for the soundtracks that can be purchased, and one for the soundtracks that are found as part of the game installation. This might help keep the mixes of manageable size. What do folks think of that distinction?

That's actually a good idea. Only question is, how will games that come with both alternatives be handled?

I'm going to start a GOGmix for the soundtracks that are being sold. I think we may need three GOGmixes - one for those that are only sold, one for those that are part of the game installation, and a third for those that are being made available for free from various legit sites. Thoughts?

I will likely add the Partial Soundtrack items here too, in cases where the full soundtrack is only available for purchase.

The repetition could potentially cause some confusion, at least at first. Having them in one list with all available sources should be more user-friendly.
Since I've never made a GOGmix, how easy (or even possible) is it to edit them after you create one? Are entries listed by time/ order of addition or alphabetical? What's the level of formatting offered, is it on par with the forums or more like the PM system? If it's the former, then going for the second option would probably be better, but if it's like the latter, multiple url links will pretty fast create a mess.


I think that's spreading it a bit too much, it might lead to certain games appearing in all three lists, or cause too many decision to have to be made, plus I fear that not enough folks would bother following all three GOGmixes.
And if you go this route, then maybe you need a forth one for the games where the soundtrack is only offered in a Special/ Deluxe Edition - see where this is going? ;-P
IMHO, two should cover it nicely - one for soundtrack sources where one needs to make a purchase, be it for a different game edition or only the music, and one for soundtrack sources that don't require any payment, be it the game folders or legit sites.

Maybe wait a couple of days for other people's input?

I completely forgot about Long Live the Queen, so here's what I have so far.

-- Long Live the Queen - There's a single music file in GOG Games\Long Live the Queen\game\music (deathmusic-chopinbminor.ogg) which is the track that plays during the death scenes.

There are several music related .py files, but I have no idea how to unpack/ extract the music from those.

It's also unlikely that Hanako Games will ever release the soundtrack due to licensing restrictions mentioned and [url=http://hanakoforum.nfshost.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2009]here (forth post in both threads).

A pity, as the piano pieces are quite nice and easy to listen to outside the game.

I might contact Hanako Games for some clarification on a couple of things, and if anything comes out I'll update here.

They can be modified, as well as have games added and removed. Games are positioned using up/down links, which makes it a real pain with long lists when a new entry is near the beginning of the alphabet. The formatting options are nonexistant, all you can enter is text. Even the URLs render as plain text, so visitors have to copy-and-paste them into their browser.

Agreed, I'll just go with two lists. The purchase one should be complete, let me know if you see any omissions. It pulls all the entries that are purchase-only from the main No Soundtrack lists, plus those that qualify from the Partial Soundtrack list.

As I recall, the .py files are just code, with .pyc being compiled code, and .pya or something being archives. There should be utilities to unpack the python archives though.

Holy cow, that's even worse than the PM system! Have to say that anyone that has made a lengthy GOGmix is a hero!
Given that GOGmixes are (kind of) used as a promotional tool, GOG seriously needs to improve their usability & functionality A.S.A.P.

Aye, it's pretty rough stuff. I'd love to see this tool get better. Even some minor enhancements would increase the utility value greatly.

Only selected pieces of the soundtrack are available for free - the full soundtrack is purchase-only. I count games that fall into that criterion as purchase-only then.

I was not planning to add them, because anyone who bought the game on GOG should be aware of the other version, and has probably made a conscious decision to go with the regular one. Thus the soundtrack doesn't matter so much to them. Obviously this isn't always the case, especially when the deluxe edition was added later, but I think it's a fair rule of thumb.
