Swedrami: There's just too many unknown variables, not to mention nothing concrete other than they have the scripts and begin shooting next year to be genuinely excited about the Obi-Wan series, imo.
We do know it's about Obi-Wan, so a character I like, we know it has Ewan McGregor, so a good actor who we know is really good in that role (he was pretty much the one thing the prequels got right), and we know it's set in the period that Disney has so far been doing mostly good work with. That's enough for me at this stage.

darthspudius: If they can keep the virtue signalling gender politics and mary sue's out of this one, I'll take it. The trailer looks good.
And here it is. 15th post... yeah, about what I expected. Thanks. Perhaps now this thread can turn into the toxic, flaming waste dump as every thread should, because heaven forbid we don't make everything about politics and gender even when there is absolutely no fucking reason to.

Considering how Legacy OT characters have been treated so far, there's genuine concern to be had here as well.
They even missed the opportunity to have MacGregor say "Hello there" when he came out on stage for the announcement.

I have no more capacity for concern when it comes to Star Wars. The prequels used up all of my disappointment, shock and bafflement for the franchise. I'm totally chilled out about it now, I just take them as they come. If it's actually good, like Rogue One, I'm very happy. If it's crap like Last Jedi, I just shrug. So I'm excited about the possibility of a good show with an actor I like as a character I like, and one that he clearly is enthusiastic about returning to, because I have nothing to be concerned about. If it's no good I'll just stop watching and go on my merry way.

why do they have to make it a sub thing WHY

aRealCyborg: why do they have to make it a sub thing WHY
Well gee, I wonder, could it be...
This does look pretty interesting. Not interesting enough for me to go and buy Disney+ or whatever their streaming service is, but it does look like it might turn out to be the best thing Dinsey has done with SW since Rogue One. In general, I do think they made a mistake by trying to continue Skywalker saga. That horse has been beaten to death.

Breja: Also, I still don't get why isn't this simply a Boba Fett show, instead of being about some other guy who just happens to also be a bounty hunter and wears mandalorian armor.
According to some youtubers Disney tries to avoid original characters whenever possible, because Lucas still recieves royalty for them.
Carl Weathers mainlining steroids and punching ewoks for 2 hours is the version
of Return of The Jedi fans deserved.

Ah, so that's why Obi-Wan is getting his own show and they're bringing back Palpatine and Lando for Episode IX.

Palpatine? Isn't he dead? I'm sure they cloned him... they used to clone it up in Star Wars!

Clone, evil force ghost, time travel (they introduced the possibility in Rebels and Palpatine knew about it)... we'll know when Episode IX gets spoiled for us by some asshole.

"Whenever possible" means when there is such possibility. If Disney thinks that without Lucas' characters people will not come they, obviously, will sacrifice some of their profits.

The somewhat qualified rumor is that Lucas does indeed have partial ownership of the original movies and characters...

...and Disney had wanted to only re-introduce (and then kill) the original characters to initially get audiences into theaters... where they would hopefully be hooked by the new characters. Obviously, Disney made some costly miscalculations and...

(even TFA -- crossing the billion mark -- wasn't the size of a "hit" Disney had expected and borrowed against. crazy)

... that made them keep adding original characters to their movies -- even finally breaking down and Iger asking for Lucas' input. This is when we suddenly see The Mandalorian and the green-light for the Obi Wan series.

Remember, Disney had seriously thought of making "reboots" of the original trilogy -- with new actors, tweaked characters, and changing the storylines just enough for ownership -- so they could own the characters outright. Yes, they were really thinking of doing that just to push Lucas out.

TFA crossed 2 billion and was in the top 3 highest grossing movies of all time until Avengers Endgame (it's at #4 now). It was only the third movie ever to cross that 2 billion mark. So I don't believe for a second it was in any way a disappointment for Disney. Whatever trouble Disney now has with Star Wars didn't start until The Last Jedi.

Anyway, I can easily believe Lucas gets paid for the use of the old characters. All I'm saying is that it doesn't make much sense as an explanation for why they didn't use Boba Fett when elsewhere the classic characters are still being used left and right, including another one getting his own live action show on the very same platform. Of course it is possible that it is the reason, and the people at Disney simply make decisions that don't add up.

DadJoke007: Disney said hold my beer and fucked up Star Wars so bad that Jar Jar Binks looks like a funny addition to the series in contrast to recent stuff.
No shit! I recently watched Episode I-III after not having seen it for three or four years. At one point I caught myself thinking: "It honestly wasn't THAT bad." Current Star Wars is so bad, it does make you miss the Star Wars-feeling from EP I-III *lol*

I liked Rogue One. The end felt a bit cheap (it basically was like "Show ends her. Thank you for watching, have a good evening"), but it was the best Star Wars since Return of the Jedi. Episode VII and VIII are a weird thing. I like the look of them (looks like the old Star Wars and not like EP I-III) but it is so... bland! I mean... You don't buy Star Wars for an absurd amount of money just to release a trilogy that tries to copy the EP IV-VI story! How lame is that? You can't bring Star Wars back to the fans by copying the original trilogy. That's a battle you can only lose. Didn't they see this coming? Or did they believe that no one would notice what they're doing?

It'll be interesting to see where Star Wars goes when EP IX ends the storyline about the Skywalker family. What'll Star Wars be like in a different place of the galaxy, or in another time? No old characters or places that you know. Everything is new and everything is Disney. What'll that look like?
