mqstout: Maybe GOG decided to initiate this one? It looks like another "episodic" game not yet finished. Has GOG decided to get out of the habit of releasing episode games until they're fully done?
According to a blue on the Polish forum the reason for removal was - quote: "developer's decision".
Wasn't this thread a little bigger a few days ago ? Or did i read a quote from the developer in another thread ?

The same thread was also created in the Long Dark subforum, you can find it here :)

How are the chances the re-appears here if and when it's actually finished? I looks really intriguing.
Urgh i have missed this thread until today.

GOG, i really think these important news should be posted as, well, as blue important "News" for all to notice. This is as important as a new release but is buried in the forum like any other thread :P

Also, posting this on 6th to advise the removal on the 7th...double urgh. So developer basically said "remove it asap, today if you can" or what? This is weird, very forced removal and i wonder why it happened.

Sad news anyway, as happens with any removal, and in this case not understandable because Hinterland original promises during Kickstarter.

And if it's about past delays on patches, not understandable again, considering other games that delay GOG patches even more (or never!!) and are still here. So a conflict between them and GOG on the way patches are managed or some weird business decision because god knows why?

I wonder if this has to do with incoming "Redux" version, with the mentioned delay on patches, with some new MP thing they are implementing (removing DRM-free i mean and forcing some kind of online connection) or it's because the deal with new publisher.

Guessing is the worse, but the fact is that this is bad news. For GOG and for Hinterland, both.

Oh, and about new publisher, if it is related to them as some people thought, they also have a deal with Slime Rancher developer, so we just need to wait a bit to see if it's also removed from GOG to confirm that. If it's not removed, then it has nothing to do with publisher and it would be exclusive from Hinterland.

Very very sad and a also angry of this (almost silent and sudden) removal. I will think twice before buying anything from them again, at least until i manage to know something more, if possible.

Found this too late, so I'll never be able to buy it on GoG? Guess I'll never play it if that's so... I only use GoG

Thank you .

idbeholdME: What?

If the devs plan on releasing updates for the GOG version, do they have ANY reason at all to remove it? Did someone pay them to remove it from GOG?
avatar
erbello: I could ask the same. Why they just want to reject the source of potential income from future buyers and still work on patches? It's very odd and quite irrational.
I think this could be the answer link
"So it seems that GOG specifically has a clause in contracts requiring devs to push their updates within 48 hours of updating their game on Steam. And because of this clause, some devs refuse to release on GOG"
That's look like they do not want to properly treat gog customers but they don't want to abandon them yet. They will update gog version when they want, not nearly after steam.

Enebias: Shame. I won't be able to buy it.
Still, I get the feeling I'm not losing much.
If you're into survival games than you are losing VERY much, as this may just be the best one from the genre.

A shame then. Still, I'm glad I didn't buy it, as I really don't believe the devs will treat GOG customers fairly; I hope I'm proven wrong, but usually being pessimist means being right.
Also, it was just the first part of a series, so... let's hope new deals will be sorted out in the future.

Well, since the game is leaving GOG I guess customers here have the right to fear they won't be treated fairly.
As for the first part of the series, you're misinformed. It's one game, but devs have released 2/5 of the campaign and are working on the rest 3/5 that will be released as free updates over time. The main "meat" which is sandbox survival is available in full since the release and it's getting new small updates now and then.

I must have misread somehwere then. Still...
um i don't see any updates. steam version is at 1.40 now. i'll give it some more time and then see if i can get a refund.

You mean 1.41, right?

1.40 was the latest version until a few hours when they updated the game again with the Story mode redux. Anyway, 1.40 was just for adding some online messaging feature for news. I don't know if they thought that online messaging was not meant for the DRM-free version or if they thought well, it's not on GOG anymore so who cares about news...

Let's see how many time do we have to wait for the 1.41 here.
Not that I know anything about anything, but my guess would be that Hinterland pulled back because DRM free content reduces their ability to control distribution and maximize profits. Just a thought.
