The game has limited resolution options available ingame, however as te_lanus noted in his report you can manually set other resolutions by running the game with these arguments:

-CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1200x32

Details: Played this some time ago without any issues although I got sidetracked & didn't do a complete playthrough, have re-tested with Wine 3.0 and everything still seems to work fine - I *strongly* recommend setting SoftRenderer=On in sshock.ini as having it turned off may result in very poor performance and the game freezing.

Getting music working:
For music to work you'll probably need to install a MIDI synthesizer and a soundfont. There are a number of synthesizers and soundfonts available, but here's some instructions for using Fluidsynth & the FluidR3 soundfont, both of which are available via the Mint/Ubuntu repositories. First install the packages "fluidsynth" and "fluid-soundfont-gm" (ignore the second one if you want to use a different soundfont). Then, before starting the game open a terminal and start fluidsynth with the command:

fluidsynth --audio-driver=pulseaudio /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2
(substitute /usr/share/sounds/sf2/FluidR3_GM.sf2 with the soundfont you want to use, if you want to use something else. Also some users may find that --audio-driver=alsa works better for them)

Leave it to run in the background as you play, then when you're done playing type "quit" and press enter to close it.

This would be Staging 1.9.20 then, yes? Any trouble with missing sprites?

Yes. As for the sprite issue, I didn't have any problems but I've played further through today & did encounter it :( I tried everything I could think of to try to get it working but without any luck, and as it affects the playability of the game I've removed the report for now. I'll keep re-testing it every so often and will post a new report when it starts working.

I was hoping the GOG version worked around it somehow. Not a lot of dev activity on that bug despite having a working demo that reproduces the problem. AMD GPUs should work. Not sure about Intel ones.

Just tried and can't make it run. Neither 3dfx or 3D3. :(
I've set 95/98/XP. Installed d3d9, d3d compiler.
Wine 1.9.20 and Linux Mint 18.

No luck, so far.

The 3DFX version crashes and I've found no way to get that working so far, but I did manage to get the Direct3D version running after adding an override for ddraw (native, builtin). I've also had to set MouseWarpOverride to force as it doesn't capture the mouse & the "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows" setting doesn't fix it. It's probably worth setting compatibility mode for Win98 too just in case.

It seems to run well apart from some slight stuttering but according to GOG there's a bug with the Direct3D version: Although I played up to meeting Elijah a few times (loading a savegame after the first time) and didn't encounter any problems. I've never played the game before though so maybe the bug occurs later on?
