So I just finished Doom II for the second time, and to be honest I just can't get over how disappointing the Icon of Sin was as the final boss (I'm not sure how I felt about it when I first played Doom 2, as it was so long ago now).

IT'S A WALL, an object, not an enemy.. It's not an actual enemy with a sprite, it's own health and attacks. The only enemies in Icon of Sin are the various demons it spits at you. The solution to killing it is ridiculously easy.

I can't say enough how cool it would of been if the huge Goat head was a floating enemy which moved around spitting fire at you, like a mega cacodemon.

Doom II has some great level design with excellent enemy placement and interesting "puzzles" with the keycards and platforming elements. It was a shame it ended on such a bad note.

Doom 3's final boss was better!

That's the one that hides the developers head right?
Yeah that wasn't the greatest boss.
And here I thought I'm the only one who doesn't like this boss fight. The same goes for the boss fight in Final Doom TNT.
I hate the enemy spawning in this fights because mostly luck decides if there spawn easy or hard enemies.

Yeah I was wondering whether it was completely random what monster you got.
still better than the halo 4 final boss...
Yeah especially when you compare it to the 'miniboss' fights : the Spiderdemon and Cyberdemon.

If only it was done like this!

Pity the rest of the game was so awful!

it's not exactly hard being better then halo for a PC FPS.

Why does Doom 3 get so much hate? I didn't think it was that bad. Granted it was different from Doom 1/2, but it had decent graphics for the time. Plus, the Hell levels in both the main game and expansion were a lot of fun!

I agree, didn't find anything particularly bad with the game. What's wrong with it?

Yeah I've never understood the criticism either. I loved it! though not as much as Quake IV.

I know a lot of people complained about not being able to use the flashlight and weapons at the same time, but that was the point of the game. Doomguy had to choose: either move in darkness, or stop to scan the area. It was similar to other games like Silent Hill, since in that game it wasn't wise to use the flashlight all the time.

Really? Did you clip through the walls and punch OremoR Nhoj to death? ;)

There is a danger to using sourceports with features not in the original game. It took me hours to figure out how to damage this boss in the original DOS DOOM 2 and another 1/2 an hour to figure out how to survive long enough to kill him (ultraviolence difficulty).

I thought this boss was pretty cool. He supposed to be as big as Godzilla or something so they really couldn't do justice to him with a sprite in a game without vertical camera control. The idea of the spawns reminded me of something out of Greek mythology. The way to kill it was just raw and satisfying. Learning about the easteregg later just made it sweeter.
I'm genuinely surprised that people hold Doom 2's level design in high regard. I mean, I don't think it's entirely bad (Barrels o' Fun is fun, for example), but so much of that game is infuriatingly convoluted...

This is really bugging me because it looks familiar. Who is that character in your avatar?
