ScotchMonkey: I highly endorse the vaporizer. I used one for about 4 months before I quit everything. I saved money and my lungs felt way better. I really enjoyed it too.

Leucius: Still using a vaporizer; I want to quit but at the same time I'm in no rush, if that makes sense.
I totally understand your predicament. None of the vapors I've known are in a rush to do much of anything either.

After two days trying to finish mission 2 of Fantasy Wars in 8 turn to get the gold reward, I just realized that it's 10 turns that's required. My first time with mission 2 I finished in 11 turns, since then I have been restarting the mission when reaching turn 9 and I'm sure there's quite a few time I would have won in 10 and even maybe 9.

At least I'm having fun.

I hate it when that happens. :o

Hehe, classic. It's like building up a massive army in an RTS for half a day and then, when you start rolling, the mission ends after your hero reaches a waypoint shortly behind your base ;-P

What did you decide on spec-wise? Did you buy from all or most from a single location?
I recently checked computer component prices and realized I cannot currently afford to build a new one.

I bought my last new computer, a Gateway, which was the first time I did so since about 1994/1993 when I bought a brand new Pentium 60 Mhz computer for about $3500. After that one I built a few computers and then bought my present one at the end of 2009 or early 2010 (I thought it was two years earlier but it came with Windows 7) for between $500 and $1000, I do not remember exactly.

Since then the power supply, hard disk, and video card went bad so I had to change all three.

If I can just upgrade my motherboard (and cpu) while keeping all the rest for less then $500 (Canadian) then I might have something decent by the end of this year again, if I can pay my current debts by then. If so then I'll probably go back to running Linux as my main O.S. (it's been a few years).

Depending on if you prefer AMD or Intel, $500 CA should be doable. I run an AM3+ mobo and an FX8320 (8 core 3.4 ghz cpu) and I think you can get both for $350-400ish CA.

I literally just finished my build tonight :) I got it all up and running with no problems. ...er, except for when i plugged my monitor into the mobo hdmi instead of the gpu's ;) took me a long time to figure that one out. hahaha

I did not get everything from one place, i shopped all over the damn place. we have store called micro center and it just so happened to be having a "build your own pc sale" so i got some killer discounts on the pricier items b/c i bought in a group. newegg, amazon, and corsair were others. got some good used stuff too, like my case.

here is my build: I wound up spending more than i initially wanted, but i followed some gog-lodytes' advice and built what i wanted (within reason...)
Corsair 500r (white, meh, but it was used)
intel i56600k (got it for a steal, it was cheaper than the unclocked i5s)
gigabyte z170x gaming 5 mobo
gigabyte 380x 4gb
crap dvd
coolmaster 212 evo (fan)
500 bronze power supply (evga)
500 gb ssd samsung (best thing i did)
i'm using a crap usb wifi that's working great
windows 10 (fuck you microsoft, but i did get it on sale)
ram: 2x8 hyperx ddr4 (amazon had a stupid low sale on it)

and yeah, so far, super happy with my build, downloading some games now :)

Nice! I had a similar incident with my first build. Plugged the A/C cord into the PSU, plugged A/C cord into outlet, turned on... nothing. Took me a few minutes and a building sense of panic before I realized I forgot to flip the on/off switch on the back of the PSU!

oh yeah, when i hit the power switch for the first time: whole big nothing. freak out completely. looks straight at mobo and sigh at it, then realize the power supply for it popped out. hahahaha ah, fun times.

I'm happy for you :) Last pc I built was a pentium 3 that I played Diablo 2 on perhaps more than I should have. Parts you picked look good :) I have the MSI version of the 380 4gb. I like it a lot.

Yeah, I haven't been able to play a pc game on high settings since... 2000? yeah. I just keep thinking, "IT IS ALL SO PURTY!!!!!" ;)

Notable new games are Rise of the Tomb Raider, The Witcher 3 (ofc), and Black Desert Online if you like sandbox mmo's.
