NoNewTaleToTell: Nope, you're free to dislike anything ya want! The world would be boring a lot more boring if we all liked the same things.
I'm just sick of the "you have to write your own stuff or else you're not a real musician!!!one!" mindset. It's usually used as a soapbox to write off an entire genre (usually pop or rap) and is nothing more than an elitism thing. And on that note, I'm sick of the people who think only liking old stuff makes you a "better" music fan than anybody else.
Sorry dudes, but liking Nirvana or The Beatles while disliking Justin Bieber doesn't make you a better music fan than a Justin Bieber fan, and no it doesn't mean you have better taste. It's all subjective and it's all art, like as much as you can.
...and yes, the voice IS an instrument, and just like guitar/piano/etc it takes years to get your voice to a pro level.
I know this is waaaay a few days ago, but I figured i'd let you know:
Yup, I totally agree. If you like Beiber, that's fine, just for pete's sake don't play it around me. I like Justin Timberlake. There, I said it, I feel better. NOt all new stuff is crap, and not all old stuff is awesome.
And good point about singing, hadn't thought about it quite that way. Agreed. :)
And fyi, nirvana is awesome ;) but so is
Weird Al!
