Does anyone have some suggestion on anime for me to watch? Something not action packed but with a nice story and characters and doesn't rely on fanservice?

May I suggest "Wolf's rain"? It has some action but mostly it's the story of the wolf and the flower.

Rather tempted by some of the strategy / 4x / rpg games on offer right now - anyone have any suggestions?

Already have spellforce and the guild games as well as spellforce 2 on disc.
