Elmofongo: Dwarves do have a sense of humor ;)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovKDk7ZaXSw#t=29
I didn't like a lot of the changes made from book to film but...that scene I found absolutely hilarious, mostly because in many rp settings friends and I, oft playing Dwarves, would make those jokes about elves, not knowing if it was male or female, how to address them, etc.

I was glad they included "The Man in the Moon Stayed up too Late" even though it was out of context; Frodo actually performed that at the Prancing Pony in Bree in LOTR:).

I've read the book and I still find both vesion OK. No favoritism.

I do know when I saw Thorin and the Dwarves entering the Mountain in Movie 2. I was like:

"Ooooh shit, the book fans are gonna freak out"

I could write a lot about what I hated regarding the second film but I've done that elsewhere and would rather share a pleasant memory with a fellow fan so here:
Some people think a lot of the "Set-piece battles" in the films are overdone, especially the bit with Smaug chasing the Dwarves and leading to that memorable scene involving a statue. I won't say more but personally? I loved that bit. Dwarves are awesome, and that scene showcased how incredible their artistry really is, not to mention giving us some breathtaking visuals of the undermountain kingdom.
As a few of you know, this kind of shit really pisses me off.
For those that don't know / understand that:
There are absolutely NO terms and conditions of the final use of the work. Granted, Groupees porbably expects a whole lot of MS Paint entries, but I know frome xperience that this is the kind of thing some types of people (not neccesarily the devs of Legacy I may add) utilise to help finish their product - they get copyright ownership of an idea that wasnt theirs for free. The person that had that idea in the first place, gets fuck all.
Without a full T&Cs list I wont enter, but plenty of other less shrewd artists would - and in turn bring on more of this kind of thing from larger developers who see a great way to farm some easy profit without having to pay the artist. AGAIN.

When I had words with GOG about this (regarding the Witcher / IHNMIMS comps last year), they adressed the issue and made it clear how things would work out, hopefully Groupees will too.

Had to rant though, and the "Bitch about life in general thread" is a bit... non-hermity! O___o&

That is messed up. The least they can do is give the artist, 10 free copies of the game or something.

maybe not in this case, but in bigger comps?!? - ie those involving large companies... they should be offering a % or a one off fee at least!

That is indeed shite. Reminds me of a situation a few years ago when a friend had a gallery show and he sold some of his most expensive work to an older guy who refused to give his info just had cash in hand and wanted to pick up the art then and there. My friend was in financial straits and sold it on the spot. A few months later he got a text from someone with the words "Holy shit isn't that your art?" with a pic of an Urban Outfitters t-shirt rack showing his designs screenprinted. Although he did have photo's of the work and a bevy of witnesses who would testify it was his, there was no way he could have afforded the legal fees and no copyright to protect him or the work.

Artists always need to be careful of this type of thing in any medium.

Haha, I actually looked this place up when I changed my loc-when I moved here, obviously.

"Midway Atoll is an unorganized, unincorporated territory of the United States, and the former home of the Naval Air Facility Midway (former ICAO PMDY)"

Want to hear something else fucked up? Some douche bag browsed the internet for cool looking art then found some. Then submitted it to Steam as his own for a Counter Strike Global Offensive weapon skin... Fortunately, he was caught by the artist.

I don't really see any problem with that contest. You know your not getting anything when you enter. If you want the knowledge that you got something into a game than you enter. It might be as close as anyone ever gets to being part of the game industry. If they spun it out to an entire game and made a fortune off it, it would be sad and they would be creeps but it is unlikely and the person had the choice to give the idea away.

Yes, nobody is being deceived. But it's insulting and it's also just wrong... It's like a beggar asking someone for $100 so he can have more money to make more money.
