Hmm, can't think of anything that would would really fit this criteria. Remember that Saving Private Ryan was something of a revolution in portraying combat. Most of the British films are made much earlier, when I first read your question the films that immediately sprang to mind were: A Bridge Too Far, Ice Cold in Alex, The Bridge On the River Kwai, The Dam Busters, The Battle of the River Plate

I guess that was a silly question to ask, very opinionated. I think it really 'revolutionized' the way most countries deal with government though. i.e. France, Britain. But I am not very knowledgable about other countries gov, and history, just the US revolution.

Sachys: I think broadly (and what im looking for) is modern, accurate representations of events like dunkirk, or lesser known events that had an impact on the war.

take the dam busters - good film, yes, but 90% horseshit, not amazingly well put together for a non brit audience and also a fairly well known event.

currently awaiting response from my historian mates on other channels.
Glad I saw these posts, I'd be very interested to find this stuff out as well.

One series I really like although it's not about the war directly but rather how it affected the homefront is Foyle's War, a detective series as a matter of fact. The show intertwines important events from the time period and criminal investigations in Hastings.

Oh I know it's not entirely accurate, nothing meant to entertain is, but I merely brought it up as a source of enjoyment.

Perhaps you do, but as hes looking for a British point of view... it should at leats be accurate to the conteporary time it is set, or modern day, historically accurate fields... rather than the fantasies sof an ITV executive who read Commando and Ian Fleming far too much!

All the more reason I want movies like this made.

I mean say what you will about Mel Gibson, he made the movies he wanted to make, (And no I am not bringing up Braveheart) he made the risk of having both Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto having to speak in ancinet langauges. What risk is there having a British perspective WW2 film that is not Patriotic Propagandistic drivel. (You can have some patriotism but make it apply to the characters)
