There is NO key - pretty sure there was last year though (when it worked!).

...and yes - he was... then he went bonkersish, wrote a basis for a new (mad) novella, which became the basis of scientology.
weird shit eh!

wonder if Jesus was just a mythos writer for gladitorial stages at the time...

Really? My Steam still shows a CD key, though I don't think it's needed for the game itself. I also don't recall it actually needing Steam, did they update the bugger?

I'm not sure - all I know was it worked at christmas, uninstalled to gain a smidgen more HD space, now it doesnt work at all.

Edit: hang on... there IS a CD key! (turned out I had Galactic Arms Race selected by mistake) - but yeah, steam version does not work for me at all (after hours of all the troubleshooting possible).

Hmm, I'm reading over the stuff you've tried, but it will take some time until I can test stuff meself. Did you run those commands from administrative prompt?

Yup - every which way but loose.

...and now having found my stardock login... cannot redeem the damned key either... BAH!

I think I'll just bag a GOG version next its on sale.

Sachys: Well, in lieu of that game not running, I finally finished The Forever War (by Joe Haldeman) - totally recommend it. Still stands out as a decent slice of scifi with meaning and really deservesa decent film or tv adaption as well.
Didn't know it had a film adaptation, but it's hands-down my favourite military sci-fi.

It doesnt (to my knowledge - but it NEEDS one - though a miniseries would be better).

Yeah, that's the part I glossed over. It gave me errors, so I contacted Stardock support. I had to go at it for weeks until they realised I want the DRM-free link, not just another Steam key. They did add it in the end, though. I had to point out to the guy how stupid it was for him to suggest I contact Steam, so they remove the game from my account, so I can add a new copy to it, so I can register the new key on their bloody web-site!

Honestly, you're better off waiting for a sale on GalCiv2, though I've no clue if they intend to ever bring it to GOG.

Having just read forum posts there from 2010 / 2009 with unresolved issues... I'm just gonna delete the shitty thing and "hide" using the new steam feature.
evidently stardock have become another set of WANK FISTED BASTARD MASTERS when it comes to support / making things work as sold.

...actually, i might contact trading standards as well...

Good. At least you have a semi-worthwhile consumer protection body :P

Btw, is your situation more stable now?

I played it when it came out at a friends (briefly) and it was basically homeworld redesigned by hr giger... but yeah, unless you have a spec-matched machine of the era... seems the steam version is useless. love to see it on gog!

So, I did some testing. The basic GalCiv won't run in any shape. AP runs only with Steam :/
Otherwise, the register_dart and movies worked immediately. Steamservice did ask for admin rights, right?
