Here are some videos about denuvo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7_WTsqAIFg ----> Why developers don't remove denuvo even after their cracked

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VpWKwIjwLk----> Does denuvo slow game performance? 7 games benchmarked

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByfLg9wGB4o ---> Does denuvo cause longer loading times? 5 games benchmarked.

I also hate denuvo and made the mistake of purchasing 2-3 games with it in the past before learning abour drm..I don't mind denuvo as long as they remove it after 1 year or even better start selling it here on GOG. Nowdays I will probably buy a game with denuvo if it ever gets a 75% discount or cost less than 10 dollars.I hate how people defend denuvo and call everyone a pirate if they don't like it. Hopefully one day the denuvo servers go offline for maybe 1-2 days or even forever that would make me laugh all day (would probably start posting on steam forums to all those idiots who defend it)

Lifthrasil: Yes, so do I. If enough people would boycott DRM, it would disappear. But that won't happen since most people don't care.
It's actually worse than if they simply wouldn't care. There are misguided souls who think that without it nobody would buy games, instead they would pirate them.

Pheace: How exactly? Almost all Denuvo games atm get cracked at one point or another. As long as they get cracked longevity of the game is preserved isn't it?
Not in the same way. "Cracked Denuvo" is often little more than bypassed (ie, it's still running), not removed. Aside from the performance impact still being there, IIRC, some of the early Denuvo "cracks" revealed they involved CPU generation specific limitations. I can't find the post now that described it, but instead of a single "noCD" .exe replacement there was instead a folder filled with separate folders each was tailored for each CPU generation (eg, "Sandy Bridge", "Ivy Bridge", "Haswell", etc). If Denuvo went out of business, then as time goes on and abandoned Denuvo games get neither official Denuvo version updates that are 'newer CPU architecture aware' nor are removed from existing games, then expect them to simply stop working on future chips (even cracked versions which previously worked on older CPU's).

It's nothing like game protection of old where if you removed disc-checks, the game simply doesn't care / check what CPU it runs on as long as its x86 compatible. Denuvo absolutely has the same "CEG" like capability of locking old games to old CPU's and is completely reliant on the continued existence of Denuvo servers patching up older version protection. Likewise Denuvo is a virtualized based protection, ie, it runs part of the game code within a virtual machine before the crack even starts within same VM (sometimes multiple layers). This is both why there's such a big performance impact plus the crack is nowhere near as easy as just turning the VM off if critical parts of the game code operate within it.

There's even rumors that some games which have claimed to have had it officially "removed" have instead had it merely officially "side-stepped" but left running rather than properly removed to deliberately try and hide obvious performance disparities that have been clearly visible in other games. "Anti-tamper" also precludes non-crack .exe modification often used by modders to improve compatibility / quality of life improvements, eg, Morrowind's Graphical Extender, Thief's TafferPatcher / NewDark, Deus Ex's "Kentie's launcher", Skyrim's SKSE, various widescreen patches that require changing the .exe, etc. If all these games .exe's were Denuvo protected, none of this stuff would be possible and they'd all be a lot less pleasant to play.

Bottom line - treat all Denuvo games as disposable and permanently compromised for long-term game preservation purposes. If some of them do still manage to work in +10 years time on 10 year newer hardware, then that's a bonus, but many will inevitably not in the longer run.
Ah, The Great Denuvo.

I remember seeing him as a kid in a circus, the daredevil Italian aerialist who never used a safety net. He should have, I was also there when his grip slipped and he went down, SPLAT! I know I shouldn't have laughed but it looked so funny that I giggled a bit.

Yes. That was tragic. And since he never used any kind of safety, he also left behind lots and lots of orphans.
I don't buy games with Denuvo in it, I just pirate them to death. That's all. Congratulations, assholes of the industry, you won. Me out.

Well, as a dev I wont pirate. But still wont buy anything infested with agresive drm. For me denuvo or cracked games are the same - inferior/flaved product. This is why I won't buy Two point hospital...

I pirate the shit out of everything, because it's a behaviour installed at the center of my being :-P

So said, since when I had my first ADSL connection (so I could pirate a LOT more stuff), I've purchased so many original things (mostly physical) to fill two houses...

When i see a game which got denuvo in it i avoid it and don't buy it. Denuvo is even worse then securom and starforce and those weren't popular those days. Denuvo limits the amount of installation. In most cases the limit is set to 5 installations, but sometimes also 3. Easy uninstalling and later reinstall or install it on an other computer ain't possible. And that is for me reason enough to avoid denuvo. It's too agressive.
I don't mind a little bit of DRM. I mean, i use steam myself and have a bunch of games over there, also because it's not here on gog (such as crusader king's II and FFXIII). But i'm not a fan of Denuvo. By the way, there are also plenty of people on steam against denuvo and there was a heated discussion over there.

Are you sure this is the kind of limitation you're thinking of? Denuvo 5 installation limit is a limit of 5 installs max per 24 hours. I've seen far worse installation limits on non-Denuvo games, including the dreaded 3 times ever install limit

PookaMustard: nevermind that its difficulty to crack kills the longevity of a game.

Pheace: How exactly? Almost all Denuvo games atm get cracked at one point or another. As long as they get cracked longevity of the game is preserved isn't it?
The ones with the skill and ability to crack Denuvo games, as far as I know, are:
- The Scene
- Voksi
- Baldman

The Scene doesn't care about longevity or such stuff, nor they care about us or the final audience of these releases. They take their merry time with cracking Denuvo-infested games.

On the other hand, Voksi was cracking Denuvo out of burning hatred of it and shared the woes of legit players and pirates and was very open about it all. In addition, he was extremely fast with his cracks; both his openness and his speed made his undoing as Bulgarian police confiscated his PCs. He is at least not arrested and that's a relief, but his cracking days are over. And for Baldman? I don't know what happened to him.

Long story short, no, we have no guarantees that they'll get cracked one way or another. The Scene cracks when it feels like it, and Voksi who was on a mission to crack Denuvo was put out of commission. Anyone could crack a regular game today, but we don't have many capable of threatening Denuvo's very business.

What Voksi did is not considered proper cracking in the Scene. He used a method that required kernel access on the PC's that installed the cracks which is a major no-no in the scene. (and should be to anyone worrying about third party control of their PC's)

While this is true, uncrackable hasn't really proven to be a thing so far and apart from perhaps the most recent versions most older versions of Denuvo have been cracked. And yes, there's an apparent lack of will to rush cracks for new games recently but that's not a problem for longevity. The only issue there is that it gets cracked at some point, and ideally that's the most complete edition. What you see a lot now is that thebase game gets cracked and then the patches/DLC's get passed over a lot because it's too much effort to crack them all.

As long as they get cracked eventually it should be fine. There's no rush if the argument is longevity's sake. There's only a rush if you want to play the cracked version.

whch games that removed denuvo still alledegedly have it?
