The problem with DRM in general (Steamworks & Denuvo alike) isn't "it won't let me play my games now during launch week", it's the unknowns when wanting to replay games in 5-20 years time. "Of course Games For Windows Live will be around forever, it's got Microsoft behind it. They won't go out of business. It's as rock solid stable as the protected .wma music I bought from the Zune Marketplace and the encrypted .LIT EBooks locked to Microsoft Reader..." "Digital consumers" can be hilariously naive sometimes...

Denuvo is worse than SteamWorks though in having a measurably greater performance impact (especially multi-layered with VMProtect, Ubisoft style) plus adding another "point of failure" in requiring multiple server's / 3rd parties to continue in business indefinitely (2x DRM is worse than 1x). However, I wouldn't call it less "moral" though than Steam's CEG (which sells you the game minus the .exe then literally adds a unique Steam server generated Custom Executable locked to the specific PC you bought it with). That's just as totally useless and no more "moral" than Denuvo for long-term game preservation should Uncle Gabe get bored one day and decide to pull the plug (which could literally be done overnight given zero shareholders to answer to...)

Indie and AA games in general do pretty well imo and i don't really need shiny AAA games anymore to the extent i feel the need to buy games with DRM in them.

Metro Exodus will most likely be released drm free sooner or later judging from 4A previous games and CD Projekt release their games drm free, sure it's only 2 developers but i don't like most AAA budget games.

Yes i also play older games which i like more than most newer AAA titles like Morrowind, Gothic 1-2, Fallout 1,2 and New Vegas, Arcanum and many other.

Then yes, it's not hard to find examples of Denuvo already preventing people from playing even newly launched games. (It also completely debunks the past "Denuvo isn't DRM, it's anti-tamper for other DRM" when there are obviously dedicated Denuvo DRM authentication servers...)

Denuvo is nothing compared to Square Enix in box releases; when I purchased Nier Automata and typed code to steam it turned out incorrect, and it turns out that you need to start disc that was attached to start Square Enix program in which you input the code to get a steam code.
But that's not even the best part; I asked for someone to upload this .exe (as I don't have DVD-rom for the past... 10? years) and it turns out that you can't start it without the disc being inserted. I had to go to internet cafe to get my fucking steam code.

I do buy Denuvo games (but I'm less likely to pay full price for them). Personally I never had any problem with it, but with some titles I did have suspicions that the performance suffered a bit because of it. There are definitely enough reasons to dislike it apart from that though, for people travelling or not always having internet access it surely is more intrusive.

I can even understand why Publishers insist on using stuff like Denuvo or Securom or whatever, modern AAA games are really expensive to make so I understand they want to protect their property.

For preservational reasons and ease of use I just wished it became common practice to remove it after a year or two, when the full price/main selling period is over anyway. Its kinda laughable that many games end up in the "under 5 bucks" category in every steam sale but still have some draconian DRM attached. Its not like it would take a lot of effort on their part, can't imagine that they don't have DRM free versions saved anyway.

Publishers have no leg to stand on, the reason these practices exist is because there is no accountability in the videogame market. Publishers couldn't do the shit they've gotten away with if we were two blocks away. The idea of accountability in a capitalist society when that business is 100's of miles away from you is a farce, there is no genuine ability for the general population to hold these companies accountable so you get lawlessness. Which is basically what denuvo is - putting defects into the software to cause it to break. No one should ever need permission to use the software they are paying for, its being a fucking slave.

I'm pretty sure you know this isn't true. There's been a fair number of Denuvo games that have removed it after release/crack. That said, most (I think) haven't.
Ideally it'd be removed ~1-2 years after release, assuming it still wasn't cracked by then.

How exactly? Almost all Denuvo games atm get cracked at one point or another. As long as they get cracked longevity of the game is preserved isn't it?
