I almost fell for Tropico 5... until realizing there is also a Tropico 5 Complete collection with all the DLCs, which is NOT on sale.

I dodged the bullet there. I will wait when the complete edition is on sale. In the meantime, maybe I should actually try to play any of the earlier four Tropico games I already have...

The steampunk scenario is kinda interesting and breathes some new life into the genre. Gameplay-wise it's very similar to Impression's city building games, including the random pathfinding of suppliers.

I've read that Lethis had some stability issues when it was released. Do you know if the bugs were fixed?

There are some other games on GOG that can be played as builders, like the free build mode in Stronghold.

I remember playing Settlers II like that - just for a pleasure of building. It was always surprising and a bit irritating for me, when finally some enemy appeared ;)

IronArcturus: I've read that Lethis had some stability issues when it was released. Do you know if the bugs were fixed?
I've only played the first few missions but I haven't encountered any crash yet. Unfortunately I can't find any recent information about this problem being fixed tho.

What a great timing GOG! :D
Just yesterday I installed Sim City 2000 the first time (I own it a while already) out of a big appetite for a city-builder once again. After a couple hours playing my thought was "It's solid but not like I remember it from the great SNES back in the days. I guess I have to get also SC 3000 then." .....
And today they come around the corner with The Grand City-Builders Sale! :D

They are fun! :) I recommend you Tropico Reloaded, especially for tiny 1,19€ you can't do anything wrong. Actually it's a bundle containing the first two great games. They are even more fun to you if you tend to like Cuba and/or socialism (the first) and Pirates (the second). It's every time like having a vacation because both are set in a tropical area and the music is great in both.
I wouldn't say that they're very demanding, you don't have to bother yourself much with statistics and diagrams - if you don't want that. Build some buildings, enjoy the atmosphere, look the residents in their minds what they think about your leadership, smoke a Havanna and later if you got into it you can deepen yourself into fine tuning.
I also would recommend the first Sim City (not available here) because it's very simple and a good basic for all other (and more detailed) city builder games. Ask if you have detailed questions. :)

Thank you! I was walking around the game for a long time - and what you've said + current price makes the decision much easier ;) I'll try it (in spite of socialism included).

Thanks also for your advice regarding SimCity. I always wanted to try that series, but always afraid of complexity. It's not even a matter of number of parameters, statistics, charts etc. They are fine as long, as the game is turn-based. Complexity becomes an issue only in real-time gameplay :)

I have the gold edition of Industry Giant on CD. But the game has an annoying bug. Every time when I start a new mission the game resets all game options like animated water, clouds, building animations, etc. to default values so that I have to reconfigure the game after mission start, which isn't as easy as the game is very slow and non-responsive when some of the graphics options are enabled.

Does anybody know if this bug is fixed in the GOG version of the game? Or does it also reset the game settings?
