For anyone who might not know, the Director's Cut of the first Broken Sword game isn't exactly similar as playing the original again with simply enhanced graphics. There are sequences where you play as Nicole, between George's segments of playthrough, whereas in the original you played only as George. This way the story of the game gets explained better and more thoroughly, as you experience it from both characters' view. Also, some of the riddles George encounters have been redesigned. So I advise to not say "I played the original, I don't need to have/to play the DC". Play them both to see the differences and better experience the overall story.

Is that necessary though? I mean, I'm playing the original now out of the box, as it's installed. Is there a problem with it?

Those instructions are for anyone who wants to use the latest most up-to-date version of ScummVM. The version of ScummVM that comes with most adventure games sold on GOG is not the latest version. That was the only reason I mentioned it.
