Aniketos: Wow! That's quite the lists you have there LordKuruku! Guess I'll edit my post/list a bit then.
It does beg me to ask, have you finished any of those games? I myself just do too much tomfoolery that unless it's quite linear I hardly ever beat a game ;) (Some are just so much fun that I just don't have the heart to finish them >.<)
I've finished quite a few. Especially those I owned before getting them on GOG. Many of them I've enjoyed playing casually but haven't finished or fully appreciated them. In reality, I wouldn't recommend so many games to most people, as most of them have months or more of depth.
However, during the holiday sale, I decided I would take care of nearly all of my entertainment purchases for the year or so in one fell swoop, and to get rid of having to wait for most anything else I want in the coming months to go on sale. I stupidly spent what was already a miniscule food budget on this. In the end, I still paid less than the price of eight new $60 games on a console.
I also bought all these games since I'd had an interest in many of them years ago, but was never able to buy any computer games back then. Many of them are games I pirated or got from thrift stores, neither of which publishers or developers ever got any money for. I never got anything new until only a few years ago, so through all my years of gaming those guys never saw a dime from me. I also get a lot of cool extras like soundtracks (I have several gigs of MP3s now!), and I'd rather support GOG than pretty much anybody else these days.
Most of all, my friends (my local friends, that is) are cheapskates and enjoy my game library. I've told them about GOG, they couldn't give a damn, but I share my game library with them, including my GOG content which I host on my server and often recommend.
Perhaps they'll buy something some day, perhaps not. It's nothing they couldn't just torrent anyway, and at least this way, any of the games that they like that I don't, I've picked up the slack for them. As GOG has been trying to say with it's stance on DRM, it's existence is irrelevant to pirates, people have been downloading this content for years from "abandonware" sites, there are already torrents out there for GOG installers anyway, and people who won't pay money for games simply won't pay money for games.
So I have several reasons for owning
so many damn games. I've few regrets, and it's pretty cool. I'm playing a whole ton of games I missed out on, but I have a much bigger library of games than just this, so I've learned to stay focused on single games.
I've particularly enjoyed Alone in the Dark 1, Another World, all the Infinity Engine\Fallout\Black Isle\Bioware stuff, Blake Stone AoG, Beneath a Steel Sky, Blood, Chessmaster 9000, EECH, Descent 1, Duke Nukem 3D, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and 3, IL-2 Sturmovik, Incredible Machine, Master of Magic, Master of Orion 2, Painkiller, Pinball Gold Pack, the Pro Pinball series, Psychonauts, Raptor, Rayman, Rise of the Triad, Serious Sam FE, Total Annihilation, Tyrian 2000, and the original Zork trilogy. I've played through many of them again recently, since almost all of those games I'd previously played.
I found Manhattan Project to be rather dull, I understand Realms of Arkania is supposed to be rather daunting but the soundtrack for the first game is beautiful. Dream Pinball 3D I do not like, but the Pro Pinball games are just incredibly masterful, especially BRUSA and Timeshock. Pinball Gold Pack is also great. Sometimes my friends can show me one of my games I haven't played, especially if it's something complicated that they've taken the time to learn, and it's really helpful to tempt me to get into one of them a lot easier.
I honestly won't be surprised if I never play all of them. It actually fills you with a sense of guilt, paying over $400 for so many games like that. At least I got most of them on sale. I imagine that feeling of guilt is akin to something Kurina must feel, seeing as she acquired every game to date and didn't have to pay a dime for all the ones she didn't have, and is even less likely to play all of them!
