walpurgis8199: Latest news is that USC cancelled a legends of the games industry panel four hours before it started because all the panelists were male.

YaTEdiGo: That is not what we should call "forced" inclusivity right? RIGHT?
I would say that is "exclusion disguised as inclusion"

And surely, those who was putting this together should have figured out they "needed" females LOOng before the T-4hour mark if that was a requirement of having it go on.

edit: just noticed the scheduling conflict issue.

This really annoyed me earlier today when a friend shared the story with me. It makes absolutely no sense. If "social justice" truly wanted to encourage more women into the industry they would have used this opportunity to advertise heavily to the female population on campus. They could have promoted this as a fun and exciting career path to hopefully garner attention. Upon visiting the event, these women could have met and networked with people who have led incredibly successful companies. They could have learned tips on what makes a successful game, how to present it to a publisher, or how to possibly set up their own indie dev studio. Who better to learn from than people that have led Blizzard, Infinity Ward, Riot, Nexon, and others?

That would be entirely too simple though. Now the entire mess is cancelled and nobody gets to enjoy the event all in the name of "diversity." This includes any women who were planning to attend already and hoping to find out the best way to get their foot in the door.

Pretty much what SJWs strive to do, no? They're like repressed little fun vacuums, sucking the fun out of life and anything they touch.

I agree, this is an event that shows "Identity politics" can stop progress

Pretty much. It is a shame they don't realize they are hurting women more than helping them. They are outright denying others the opportunity to meet leaders in the industry all because they have man cooties. Unless they get heavy hitters as replacements, such as Hennig or Raymond, the new panel is going to be very subpar in comparison to what could have been. Considering those ladies are very busy kicking ass running their own EA Studio and working hard on the next Star Wars IP, it is probably unlikely. It would also risk ruining the narrative that women aren't welcomed in the industry. My best guess is half these men will be replaced by "social justice" women who have only ever made one shovelware game and claim they know how to fix the entire game industry.

I don't know the people responsible for the canceling, so I can only guess, but I guess...
... that they are aware of these consequences, they just don't care. If they are opportunists who fight in the name of the "oppressed minority" for their own benefits, actually helping the "oppressed" is the last thing they would want to happen.

Thinking about it, one or two would be enough. Some of the original panelists will not make it on the rescheduled meeting anyway (statistically pretty much sure thing, they are very busy sort of people), some of the rest perhaps refuse to be part of this politicking, and "SJW" narrative get another story about misogyny in gaming industry along the way of: "X, Y and Z refused to attend meeting with female participant(s) ."
If someone planned it this way, it's actually pretty smart move.

Zealots and fanatics don´t understand about anything that is related to "progress", extremes touch each other, some "progressive" people result to be as dangerous and harmful to progress as the worst of the conservatives.

Sadly, I guess comfortable and developed societies finally build people that anger to be important, as Herbert said I think in DUNE "when people is comfortable soon or later they want to reclaim to be part of the History" (not sure if I quote correctly, but the idea was the same) internet is the best example of this, Andy Warhol was very right about the minutes of fame, is all about "change" I should say POSE the World. I wish to be wrong, and even if I LOVE a great part of what post-modernism and post-contructivism represents, in the other side I believe is a dead end for societies, a sign of pure decadence, still I love some decadence... but this is being simply too stupid to be good, and Trump and their followers are the opposite and equal force created, pure Newton metaphor.

Yeah how dare we try to encourage the women that actually want to go work in a field like that and help them.

Unless there is at least one woman on the Panel it's only gonna be mansplaining anyways.
Nevermind that the people on it are actually successful and could teach something, that's just the patriarchy at work.

You know what until there is a 50/50 parity we shouldn't even have any gaming mentioned anywhere,
Nvm that this will probably not be possible unless you force some women with a gun in Hand to take the Jobs against their will.

So has anyone heard about the developer, The Chinese Room, calling CD Projekt Red (the fine folks who own GOG) sexist because of the Cyberpunk 2077 image?

Good to see they still aren't ashamed to express their opinions. I'd be after their game lineup.

Conspiracy though. They probably don't put anything in their games because they believe it would turn the players into some kind ''ist''.

They made Dear Esther. Also the sequel of Amnesia that is on sale just now on GOG. Never played any of their games, not my cup of tea.
Just for the sake of fairness, they didn't call CD Project sexist. They express an opinion that Cyberpunk 2077 will be just as sexist as Witcher. Which - in my eyes - is a compliment rather than insult.

In my opinion, an off-hand remark of this kind is not worth of much attention. So someone is appalled that cyberpunk-themed game use cyberpunk-themed motives and aesthetic; fascinating. In other news, water is still wet. Lets not make another mountain out of a molehill.

You're right, but it's always fun to point and laugh at silly people.

I see no fun in laughing at silly people, not anymore.
But I LOVE laughing at the silliness of some things that people occasionally do. And I must admit that some people are more proficient in that regard than others :-).

It's incredibly stupid given the fact CDPR distributes their games. Those kind of comments are usually reserved for personal accounts. Most likely they're gunning for a Polygon interview, seen a number of indie devs gain attention this way.

Yeah I'd say that is jealousy notice the remark about the 10% women in development below it.(Yeah ok I guess it is about composers, damn reading while drunk)

Guess if you can't make good games complain about the ones that can to drum up some hype

I like this though, makes it easy to find devs for the blacklist :D
