People continued to hound her after her termination and then her husband. I know it's not popular to say but that's just straight out harassment. GG became what it's been trying to argue it wasn't and it's sad. Add that with just days before the overreaction to Dragonspear and it made it all the more worse. Lots of the good, rational pro-GG people - even some of the more strongly anti-feminist types - said "screw this, GG is out of control now."

Well I do not agree much with DragonSpear, I think some people made reasonable arguments vs. it, it is forced inclusivity, and is tiring, more in a world were transsexuals doesn´t make any sense, as they can just magically completely change their sex. They could wrote a fantastic story about a character that discover the first sex change potion, and how bad treated he was before, until he became a real woman or something... there are so many nice possibilities but instead... the cheaply forced a character that doesn't fit much. Just think about it, there are transsexuals in Dragon Age Inquisition and The Witcher, and almost nobody complaint. (And is the same target because the game genre)

But of course some assholes draw a bad image for this argument ranting about trans or homosexuality in general. And some other assholes started to point people for the reasonable arguments as they are "crazy", again polarizing.

About Rapp couple, yes, is just straight harassment, of the worst type, is a witch hunting, but hey! what people did with Matt Taylor for that T-Shirt was exactly the same thing.

True indeed. I agree with you on this, and in fact many GG supporters were not glad of seeing her fired when they thought it was because of her opinions, when they found out it might really be about her other job they were cool with it. I just say that I agree with some of Rapps views, well, of course I do not a agree with her "intersectionality" nonsense and find her lack of consistency regarding free speech uncomfortable, but I don't like the fact that she was the one punished and not the localization team which was the one who caused harm.

Well is just that, I mean, I can disagree with her ideas or speech, but this witch hunting should stop NOW. Is annoying that people can be fired for their ideology (even if this seems to not be the case) and I used to believe that SJW were the ones pushing this, they are moral police, so if GG supporters are supposed to fight for freedom of speech, or at least anti-SJW, firing people, doxing them, judging them, for their opinions, would make every PR or public figure, a POLITICAL CORRECTION ROBOT, that I bet any lover of free speech would not appreciate at all.

Yup, they're sick little fucks. They even have a timer set up counting up how many months / weeks/ days / hours / seconds its been since someone they're harassing has said they'll commit suicide. The evidence points out the person in question had a secondary profession and comments going directly against Nintendo and their customers. Which seems to be a big problem in the industry as even gogs US community manager was mouthing off at their customers a while ago.

The baldurs gate problem was that devs took a much beloved game series and used it against their customers and as cover for its bugs.

Never even heard of Kiwi Farms before. Their description sounds like a rather unsavory group, but with that name I would not think of harassment if I heard the name without a description of their activities.

They're a legit harassment group. They post people to milk lulz from and harass them it seems so they can laugh at them. They targeted Rapp's husband. But to the media and SJWs ofc it was GG and not them.

I know now since you mentioned it earlier. They are clearly a rather unpleasant lot. People should try to crack down idiots like these guys and Lizard Squad instead of censoring free speech. But of course, the UN would rather target Facebook where you are not even anonymous than these real bad guys.

This is certainly one of the major problems facing Gamergate. While the movement has bad eggs in it, as every group does, they are also being unfairly blamed due to journalists being lazy and refusing to research what they report on (or hoping to push an agenda). In this particular case, at least as far as I am aware, Gamergate was primarily interested in Rapp's comments regarding children and lowering the age of consent. The Wayne Foundation would follow-up with a formal complaint to Nintendo on the matter and that was that.

It was Kiwi Farms who took it well beyond this point and sought to expose her job as an escort, posting photos of her advertising page and that of her husband. They have essentially continued the campaign against this couple, friends, and relatives. Yet, instead of journalists actually looking into the matter, it is simply easier to report on the big bad Gamergate doing all of this. Five minutes of browsing the Kiwi forum would have shown journalists that Kiwi does not consider themselves to be Gamergate and are the ones posting a lot of this information. Gamergate on the other hand, at least in terms of KiA, sought to permaban anyone who shared private information or escort photos.

Gamergate certainly has its issues, but people are so quick to blame them for practically everything. They are the big bad boogeyman. It also does not help the matter that Rapp fueled this narrative the day she was fired by continuing to imply Gamergate was at fault and wouldn't acknowledge the second job until a little later.

As for Rapp herself, what happened there is certainly tragic. I feel for her being harassed the way she is and nobody should have to endure such things. It is especially terrible that innocent bystanders (friends, family) are taking a lot of heat from this as well. However, I also side with Nintendo on the matter now that the full story has come out. As a large international corporation that targets families and young children, you really can't blame them for firing someone in public relations who has a second job that is also an illegal one. If it were legal, then that would certainly be another story.

I hadn't really considered this angle until your post just now. It could also be that journalists are pinning this on Gamergate because it makes for better headlines, whereas "Kiwi Farms" sounds far less intimidating and would likely confuse readers. Who knows though. Either way, most of the reports on this event are a mess. A shame people care more about an agenda than digging for the truth.
