Stan Lee, yes, that Stan Lee, had a pet project during the .com bubble, He created a web based company for independent comic writers after he finished his exclusivity contract with Marvel. The project was full of hope. But just as with most .com bubble companies, he failed. Why? Someone in charge of the money at the company wasted the funds, with no money to pay the company crashed as a jet without fuel. But it was not Lee's fault, yet still he took blame for it because the idiot who broke things was under his charge.

That is the thing, Professional victims are a women only thing not because they are oppressed, but because people would not allow a man to behave like that. I am not saying men are oppressed, I am stating we are usually held to different standards, and ironically the "progressives" do that a lot more often than those ho are not "progressives".

I don't know why but I am surprised to see this thread still going after all this time. I see the same misconceptions are being posted though and that is a little disheartening. Since I am not willing to read all the pages I have missed in my absence, I apologize if the rant below has already been covered at length.

As a female gamer for over three decades, all I can say is this is a bunch of bull.

Female gamers are not subject to more abuse. In all the years I have been playing video games, much of which has been online, I have never been targeted based on my sex. The fact of the matter is men are generally more friendly to me once they discover that I am a girl. When I used to play MMOs I was often given free gear and offered assistance for quests. When I am playing a shooter I notice banter in voice chat tends to become more playful. The female gaming friends I have also never mentioned dealing with serious harassment of any kind. I mean c'mon, even my 66 year old mother just started playing MMOs a few years ago and made new friends, most of which are young men.

This does not mean that myself or others haven't run into jerks. Yet, these are the type of people who harass others equally and are typical bullies no matter what. I certainly get hassled a lot in MOBAs for being a terrible player (I really am), but so do my male friends. The main thing I remember being singled out for above others is my Texan accent but even I can laugh about that. I have not been singled out for my sex though and told to gtfo or berated until I leave.

I am also curious to know what gendered marketing you are referring to as well. I certainly have an idea of what you mean but I feel it is worth exploring. As a woman, can I not be attracted to certain types of marketing as well? I feel the people pointing this stuff out tend to be the ones who are truly guilty of stereotyping. Why can I not enjoy male characters who kick ass, sexy women who are empowering, and insane action sequences full of explosions and gore?

Personally, I am tired of hearing about all of this. I am tired of people claiming that simply because I am a woman I am a victim. I damn well am not. Video games are what got me through tough times as a youngster and it was video games that have introduced me to some amazing people around the world. I am also tired of the many women gamers who try to speak up about the positive side of gaming but are always ignored because it doesn't make for a clickbait headline. I am especially tired of seeing "grrl gamers" pick fights and misrepresent gaming just so they can stay in the news.

By the way, at least when it comes to video games, avoiding harassment is the easiest thing to do. Nobody knows anything about you that you do not reveal to them yourself. Find a neutral name (ie. d3M0nSl4yEr) and go play whatever game you want to your heart's content. Nobody will know your age, race, gender, sex, or whatever until you tell them what it is.

Surely the term "social justice warrior" is pejorative, mocking and/or labeling of one's opponent in a discussion, which is unfortunately not ideal, but almost any group tends to label their opponents in one way or another, so one could try to accept that or even proudly use the term oneself for it to lose its negative connotation.
I would rather say it is more on par with the term "Sad Puppies" than any concepts of "Der Untermensch".

Moreover, by making this highly exaggerated and simply wrong comparison, you are downplaying all the atrocities made by actual nazis during their reign.

And to say that it is somehow dehumanizing is to plainly use the word "dehumanization" in an excessive or inflationary way.

Feminist Frequency receives a lot of crap not because she is a woman but because she continually misrepresents video games and the people who play them. If she wants to be taken seriously she needs to handle the medium in a more honest manner. For example, in one of her videos she states that women as disposable objects is reinforced by the fact that these characters disappear once they are killed. Most gamers are well aware that video games, especially older ones, are often limited by memory and cannot maintain a large pile of dead bodies on the floor. Thus, they disappear to keep the game running smoothly. Sarkeesian painted this as a slight against women though, misrepresenting the game and situation entirely.

By providing a link to her Twitch stream you are painting a very biased narrative. A true picture would be linking to the many women who stream video games and are not purposely picking fights by misrepresenting the games they play. People like Dexterity Bonus (Dodger) and Missclicks seem to do just fine and their chat rooms are pretty tame. Margaret Krohn is another. Then there is ara_gaming who lost her account in a divorce settlement and it was given to another individual. This led to outrage by a great deal of followers because they wanted to support Ara, not a random stranger.

This is all part of the problem. People want to hold up agitators as examples of how gamers treat women but they continually ignore the others that have been able to build careers out of video games and are treated relatively well.

After being busy this past year with a lot of life issues I find my patience for this nonsense is wearing very thin. I finally have a chance to start playing games again and all this is still going on. I see people measuring butt cracks as a display of misogyny and a game purposely trying to agitate others by including memes in the dialogue. Oh, that and the dota screenshot of people attacking a professional player because high mmr is equivalent to white privilege. Seriously, what the hell? Everyone has gone mad, lol.

Yeeeup. I try to sit back and enjoy my games, go and check on family and the rest of the world and everything is still on fire and more fires spreading all over the damn place. :/ But as a whole, gamers can't really just ignore something and let it be after a while, I guess. I find it absurd that someone would claim we hate Feminist Frequency because many of the staff is female since I have realized someone who could be the most hated person in all the Feminist Frequency staff is John McIntosh, people hate him a lot more than anyone else because he is the idiot who writes whatever intellectually dishonest dogma Anita preaches. She is an actor in a play, people don't like actors in bad plays, but they hate the playwright even more.

Heh. Joshintosh certainly gets a lot more hate, but since he doesn't broadcast it (since it doesn't make nearly the same impact as Anita's "harassment" it just gets buried anyways) no one hears about it. And people tend to confuse the "hatred" for Anita for the hatred for her words. I so despise everything she says, which is overall pointless drivel, but I could care less for her.

Jack Thompson said pretty much the same things but with the "violence" angle, got as much or more vitriol and yet, not nearly as much sympathy because he was a man.

Thankfully, Anita's on her way to explore "history", so seeing historians demolish her next will be fun. Unless she actually does proper research this time, which would be a first.
