Brasas: So... the medium article reads like a hit piece. Is it one?
In the comments that feeling dissipates. The reporting author clearly says they are linking the source material (which I had wondered about - it's source #4) and they imply or outright say the original author is defiending that CP should be legal. They seem convinced of it.
Reading the source material however, reveals a more nuanced picture:
- For one, the original author seems to be more focused on things like Anime and Manga.
- When considering "actual" CP she makes it clear near the end that she does not defend its creation or distribution. Only possession.
- She also makes it clear her defense of possession is more akin to depenalization rather than actual legalization.
This is basically a similar approach to others in the area of drug use. Heal the addict / user rather than jailing them. Somewhat legitimize usage of drugs in order to have clarity on the problem rather than keep it hidden. Continue to repress and jail drug traffickers and drug producers.
There are issues with these approaches, but after having read so far - and I was not exhaustive - I see the reporting author as likely dishonest - to me this was a hit piece, motivated by god knows what. I don't think they could have missed these nuances / context accidentally, since they actually linked the source materials and seem to have familiarity with it. Alternatively it is possible they were blinded by righteousness without any bad faith...
So to me this is a perfect example of the kind of lying by omission that anti GG usually does, but apparently on the GG side. Of course I have no idea - and it really does not matter - what any of these peopel feel about GG, in fact the position the original author takes against censorship of Japanese games would seem to align with the GG one.
The problem is not her position on this. At least not for me. I love lolicon. My complaint is her lack of consistency. You see, she is a radfem, she supported the censorship of videogames done by Treehouse, including covering a loli in Xenoblades X, not to mention that she is a total anti GG.
You see my beef is her lack of consistency and that much likelly she is trying to coopt rather unpopular set of groups, lolicon, hebephiles and pedophiles. Now, regardless on your views of them, we know the tactics of these people, she is trying to do to at least lolicon, a sbculture I like, what they did to video games. That is why I said she was a fucking hipocrite. Not to mention that well, her support of those groups would actually gain rejection from others in stead of the much needed help or free speech in the case of drawn content. Sorry but I would not like to see lolis spewing feminist rethoric in manga just as it happened in comics.
Maybe I should be clearer when I write, but her lack of consistency set me off of balance and full of rage. I hate it, I hate when someone who is cheering for the censorship of a game for the sake of "intersectionality" claims that there should be less censorship and that posession of cp should not be treated as a horrible felony. Why, because a lack of consistency makes me mad in rage.
If it was a lolicon artist or even a NAMBLA guy i would actually not mind and in the case of the artist I would aplaud it, but someone who supported censorship has no right to do that. At least not ithout taking back the previous statements first. You will see my opinion on it on the post comments. My user pic is Carol Tea from Freedom Planet, rather easy to recognize.
Again, I am more concerned with the lack of consistency and the attempt at coopting lolicon than anything else. They feel they have succeeded and will move to a less defended subculture which is a bit desperate for support and will welcome them. I actually found this in a lolicon forum and warned them about it. I told them what these people did to gaming and how they would do the same to lolicon manga and even maybe spread to manga in general later.
Vainamoinen: Downvotes be damned, it's going down whether I post or whether I don't anyway.
--> What Brasas said.
LeonardoCornejo: Not only that, it comes from someone who censors games and actually edited the skimpy outfit of an underage character in a game.
Vainamoinen: Quote from linked article:
While not directly involved with localizing games, Ms. Rapp...
Vainamoinen: Gamergate strategy dictates that next up, you need to make up a conspiracy theory that she's rich. You're just putting logs on the hate fire, leading to more harassment. That's despicable.
Rapp is now gamergate's #1 target. Which is ridiculous, see my analysis on page 340. Age of consent in Japan is 13. So in Rapp's eyes – and I don't agree with her! – the sexualisation of minors aged 13 to 18, common in Japanese video games, is not paedophilia and should not be cut in Western countries full stop.
She's fighting censorship and, with it, in fact opposes her employer. LeonardoCornejo: At least be fucking consistent!
Vainamoinen: I do not trust her. I know this kind of people. They will greet you with the left hand and stab you with the right. She is not doing it to support lolicon or free speech. She is doing it to coopt one of Japan's industries most hated by prudes.
