yet they couldnt help but apply on finn character the overused classic "afro comical relief sidekick archetype" that always had been bound to fall upon most afro actors since ages...

also fun thing: empire died, but first order kept the whole stormtrooper armor design... go figure
and also the cereomony of first death star shot, with the speech of a black uniform's leader in front of big red flags with some black symbols and some white around... such 1930-ties savor (paul verhoeven dared such joke, in stormship tropper, the first, but there it was "funny" at least)

also too bad they rumored yet dismissed again actress tatiana maslany (as already several other hollywood projects failed on her too), considering how good performance this actress is able of (i still am impressed over her many characters in orphan black)

so again, put a "pretty face" female for the lead to quiet the vocal feminists, put a black sidekick but with still usual afro comic relief archetype... i'm not sjw at all, but i prefer an industry that keep on doing usual stuff, rather tahn one that hyppocritly and cowardly give ground to vocal minority critics yet still sneak their old way all the same. get balls ! keep being yourself, or promote minorities but in a respectful and wellcrafted way

it feels like when in games they throw in female lead character as a random empty shell for the sake of avoiding social media onslaught instead of just fleshing out character properly.

i am not against minorities in games (or movies/tv shows) at all. i however hate when they are thrown in as bone to dog and forced upon games down our throat without other intent and explanation than "it's for positive discrimination sake". it doesnt do any good to anyone. it fuels rage after unfairness, it's taking custo-gamer for an idiot, and giving up to the hysterical toxic small portion of any "sides" or "clans" who plays/act against their self-claimed causes.

as a grownup adult and above oyster-iq gamer/consumer/watcher, i desserve better products. stop shoving things up my throat for no reasons

About STARWARS critic, seriously, is the first time I am like 95% agreed with her, with the exception of the clear duality of old movies, isn't so clear...

I also agree that a woman and a black guy in the main roles is good, even if at beginning I thought that a black Stormtrooper was non sense, but the Empire it isnt what it use to be... first order stupid thing controlled by "voldemort" sic... but actually makes much more sense have a black Finn or a woman Phasma than the whole stupid Starkiller plot aka 3rd Death Star.

So first point ever for her. LOL
I still don't agree with her. To me it seemed like she was more critiquing the medium/Genre than that individual movie. Star wars should be more epic action than the epic friendship that She seems to want. It's like the time she was criticizing I believe it was watchdogs & she thought the Player Char should be able to go to the hospital with a female NPC that a male NPC beat down because the female assaulted the male npc first.

Agreed, "Tokenism" doesn't help anyone IMHO
I actually liked Finn and I wanted to see more development of his friendship with Poe. Dunno, that felt like something awesome, not to mention that Poe encouraged Finn's individuality.

What I did not like were two things, that because of the current social environment Finn felt like a token negro, and that Rey was a fucking mary sue with OP powers and all. They better bring a good explanation for her being OP before the end of the triology or it will be as bad as the midichlorians thing in the prequel.

back in the 90ties when i first went on internet, mary-sueism was always unadvised and discouraged in every fanfic forums and other writer's communauties online

and to my GREAT surprise, since a few years, the most commercial winning trend in movies/tv series now (usually from books) is marysue everywhere: take hunger games (battle royal minus the whole moral thinking point and added with marysue and nonsense), take divergent (meh?! just meh?!), take true blood, take twilight, take the ultimate mind-masturbating mary-sue 50 shades of grease :)

and don't make me say what i didnt... i'm aware all of those come from female novel writers... but sorry to tell you: being female doesn't grant you automatic skill in writing, nor smart/clever character or plot design. but as it seems to sell so well and bring so much money, i completly understand why keeping the whole train running fast and far...

and i"m adding to the records that, before all the bitlit movement and the recent trend, i DID read plenty of GOOD novels (or other works) written by female writers a couple of decade ago, and with very good characters and plots and even strong and well fleshed out smart female lead characters: marion zimmer bradley (avalon cycle), margarett weis (dragonlance novels, deathgate cycle) , lois mcmaster bujold (vorkosigan saga)... and uterly clever whole universes like laura hickman (with her husband too) with both dragonlance and ravenloft universe

no need for disco-ball daylight glowing vampires (or other pedophile vampires who still can't help but date and make out with high school girls after centuries of life... no one noticed that girls under 18 were minors ?) with small were-doggies pets (mark reinhagen, rest in peace... i know you are alive, and it's a miracle such horrors didnt bring you in the grave yet), no need for completely absurd and unblelievable/unmanageable dystopian societies that couldnt even exist without crumbling down way before...

Uhmm, you know, I agree on almost everyhting you say except for one thing. In fiction, and in some cass even in real life, I find age difference of little relevance and mental maturity of higher relevance, and well Bella is like what 15, 16? I would be more worried about her being too immature to consent at all than about her age.

Alo remember that the Mary Sues have mal counterparts so to speak (I am looking at you Naruto!)
of course people at 16 can be mature and some over 20 can be childish... i wasn't talking on that ground though (because it's not THAT often anyway and adult-thinking veteran-like teens are not the norm by far...)

i was just talking on the strict and cold "legal" point of view, and it surprised me that nobody gave a damn about that, not even some who would be very vocal on similar topics irl or regarding something else that fiction.

and anyway, on the lore side: come on, those are centuries old beings; they should already be over with highschool drama and inexperimented teens. it feels "lame" for an immortal with such a long live to still run after teens for date/sex.
plus, take the average "heroine" in such stories, it's always an op so so special mary-sue that could unknowingly "mesmer" a centuries old immortal being like a magnet...

Actually is a perversion of an old trope, the immortal vampire preying on young women. Basically in stead of him perverting young women and often turning them into the same thing he is to increase his army, thes one falls in love, so cheesy.
Jonathon Blow (creator of Braid) has released his latest game, The Witness. For those of you who don't know this developer is "on the right side of history" and seems to be one of the chosen of indie developers. The current metacritic score is 90, with perfect scores from IGN and Time. User reviews on Steam aren't as favourable with a mostly positive at this time. (I skipped metacritic user reviews as there are only 8)

Are we seeing another case of the gaming press boosting a developer who is part of the clique? The main critisicms from steam reviews appear to be that the game only has one puzzle type and that there isn't much of a story. You just walk around an island and do various line puzzles over and over again.

So buyer beware as the game is quite expensive at $44.

Its selling well I think, and as long as people like it, its good. The dev as you mentioned is a shady guy though. He called for GGers to be blacklisted from the industry. He wanted to cut people out because they disagreed with him. So normal aGG but as long as he ain't banging reviewers or taking down criticism, I'm fine with it.

Either way he'll be under a fine lens for the next few weeks so any play he makes will be blown up quickly if it comes to that stage.

I didn't know that, have you got any source?
so ? this dev guy wanted to blacklist out people who want more ethic and disclosure of corruption in journalism ?
that would say a lot about his position towards players and consumers then

braid was fine game but there are many puzzle platformers with good ideas around too, and afaic what brought my attention on braid was for most part the soundtrack (thanx for magnatune to feature the artists who had their tunes used in braid ost though, so i could enjoy them alongside of any game)
Now I don't feel so bad about GOG rejcting Braid, I mean, maybe they thoguth the game was overpriced and Blow had a temper tantrum and that broke the deal.
Terrible news.

Nintendo cucked again. They censored a rather inocent petting mini game in the upcoming Fire Emblem :(

Well, one new thing to include in my super un PC project with lots of blood, blackjack, hookers, furry, anti feminism, lolicon, drugs, explosions, a villain that looks like Anita Sarkeesian and is a misandryst, a homosexual secondary hero, a patriarchy depicted as a good thing, same with religion, many fantasy tropes species, enormous exposed boobage, and more and more and more, now with head pat.

I am starting to wonder if my sister is right and some women deserve to get their rights revoked so that they can see what real oppression is. Thank you, now I have a few lines for my game about the enemy being totally hot!
