Let's be fair, EVE is SPECIAL in that regard. VERY Special, it takes a while to get all of the skills because they train in real time, thankfully they train while you're logged off too.

Simple rule to live by...

When a hobby becomes math, stop. Stop immediately and find a new one. Going by the rule would have saved many a D&D player from an unfulfilled life.

It's also why Warhammer 40k is getting to be a tad unpopular with it's fanbase.
I swear the rules are 80% random tables now.

What if your hobby IS recreational maths?

So, I've read that quote from Anita (NY Times):
“Game studios, developers and major publishers need to vocally speak up against the harassment of women,”

What happened to the "big" online petition against harassement that was signed by lots of devs? Took less than 2 months to be completely forgotten in the limbo of the net, it seems... :o)

I thought the GameJournoPros proved that it was "manufactured" and it just went silent.

Sorry I'm busy with other issue in real life, but that is what I heard.

The collective attention span on the internet is short, it's memory is long. The problem is, is that if they produce the letter, then they have less of an article. All in the name of sensational journalism, isn't it great how fucked up we are anymore?

This so much. Seriously. I guess those voices didn't count or weren't enough? Maybe we should try the approach on a larger scale if one feels there is a problem with women being harassed a lot like critiquing general society (if there is an issue, I'm going to go out on a outer space limb and make the assertion the issue is not just with gamers). I guess they would argue that "not enough has been done". My question to that then is what's the answer for how to fix the alleged issue? Stonewall developers who offend you with their game in the industry or legislate games to not offend anyone? The police and FBI seem to be investigating the allegations of harassment made out in public, so that part of society appears to be working. What more can we do?

In the quest to improve societies we should not default to censorship (taking away rights) in the name of one persons sense of "justice". Too many people in the past have claimed to be doing things in the name of "justice" to take away peoples rights, property, and even lives. That's why I stress if we are going to curb rights, we best damn well make sure the problem is occurring as stated with irrefutable evidence. To do less is to be no better than "the man" or "patriarchy" that one feels is established (since one is using their tactics to silence free thought since your position is "right).

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you. - Friedrich Nietzsche

It's kinda funny that when one fundamentalist Christian blows up an abortion clinic, people don't attack fundamental Christianity, but when a couple women get harassed on Twitter and the Internet or on forums, the whole group of gamers are guilty.

Sort of a divergence, but look at any sports page with a forum for comments. Look at all the trolling in the comments possibly bordering on threats just because someone roots for a particular team. Yet that isn't harassment.

Yet somehow, one or two very vocal trolls on this issue and its the end of the world, a worldwide attack on women.

Another aside, the story of harassment seems to be growing like an old fishing story, the 9 inch bass becomes two feet in the end. I've seen articles claiming Anita and/or Zoe have received thousands of threats. Seriously? Thousands? Or is this more stretching the truth?

http://i.imgur.com/fo9Cz6z.png I know most people don't trust the chans but...yeah, I don't think this is wrong at all. In fact the MSM getting involved is probably more like spray and pray into melee then it is tactical shooting.

Can't say i trust what random people on the internet say, but this makes a lot of sense. I can definitely see more companies following Intel and starting to leave the sites involved with both GG and anti-GG. I think no company wants to be "involved" in a political debate, and this is what gaming sites have turned to. And all the evidence of corruption in these sites might harm the brands advertising on them.

Not to mention that accusing Intel of "supporting a misogynist capaign" might backfire for good and force other companies to leave.

A lot of this has struck me of people looking for short term solutions. They don't know how to react when this didn't die down immediately, they kept saying that Destiny would kill Gamergate and here we are still. The attack on Intel was stupid, it was beyond stupid, it was unprofessional and it's going to bite a lot of people in the ass even more now. And honestly? I expect the screaming to get worse, it's why they're going to the mainstream media because they can't think long term enough to plan out everything.

I just leave this here and go: waxy.org/2014/10/gamergate_schadenfreude/

I especially like the last quote from Patrick Smith: "One would think the realization that "all my heroes are against me" might lead to some faint flicker of self-reflection."
