It would seem the UN cyberviolence report uses a source that describes pokemon as the killing game for toddlers

...Yeah, I'm calling BS on this. No article link, not really buying it.
I just returned from personal matters. And what I see is extremely disturbing. I mean, the UN is pushing for internet censorship and is full of doublethink. First they warn that Sweden is going down (Without telling why) and now this. I am getting realy scared. There should be something we could do to stop this :(
If the UN call for censorship is actually heeded, I'd expect the American based sites to disable any comments sections. So no youtube comments, heavy heavy moderation on reddit, thought policing on FB and Twitter, but the smaller sites won't be very affected without legislation. So expect the outrage culture sites to follow the motherships' advice. What am worried about is if they'd try to regulate video content on youtube. That will be outright political bias. I also worry about Voat, which is the backup free speech site to go to after reddit inevitably falls. I think its based in Sweden, and I heard Sweden has been moving backwards recently.

If that push gets attempted, the entire internet better link arms and storm the castle like they did with internet neutrality and SOPA. But I have a feeling the censor agenda will work sooner or later. The feelz people get from SJW activism is too good of a drug. They've split humanity into yet more tribal rah-rah-rah jingoism and have made arguing over chat rooms and forums into mini civil rights movements. But as always, everything will get pushed upstairs and the only thing we'll gain is tighter slave chains.

Some of you want tighter controls over free speech and internet etiquette. And you're going to get it. Lots and lots of it. Be careful what you wish for.

As long as the push isn't felt equally worldwide, I think we needn't be as worried. With Europe and US and Australia out of the picture, I'm pretty sure other countries will find it much less competitive on the internet. So expect to be posting on sites less influenced by the UN. Poland is a great example. IMO the UN will drag its strongest followers down and just reduce their power on the internet. Sad to see either way.

I think most people would agree that in most respects the UN is a paper tiger, so there's a possibility for some optimism. However, internet regulation through ICANN is one area where the UN could grow some teeth. They wouldn't need to arm a MP force or bring out the brute squad, all they'd have to do is send a shit load of cease and desist type warnings to people on their sites for posting 'inflammatory content' or some such wording. At that point, fines and litigation would be rescinded so long as the abuser stopped being a _ fill in the blank racist/sexist/trolling/jerkface. And who would stand up to that in court so long as the amnesty option was kept open? Hey, go to jail, pay a huge fine for being a dick, or keep your mouth shut and do what Big Brother/Sister tells you. Which option do you think most people would choose?

Quite chilling indeed. Down the road, the entire internet will probably look similar to what they have in China. There will always be the dark webs, the silk roads, and the back room IRC stuff. But the main public arteries of the internet will be walled off and censored up the wazoo.

But they can only pressure people or websites from countries they have pull over. With this censorship thing, I see VPNs becoming more popular and sites hosted in places like Brazil or South Africa getting more traffic. They can't control the whole world, afterall.

This is sounding more and more scary. Is there nothing we, the common folk, can do? :( I am realy worried. I like my internet full of rule 34 on trolling. I get hard ons and keks from those two things. And for a single unemployed college student doing voluntary work that is like the only thig in life that makes me want to wake up everyday besides of my family.

And if you think about it, most of the places SJWs frequent and content they enjoy would not even exist if not for net neutrality.

Use the GG approved adblock / siteblock I suppose.

BaedJapan still stands. There is hope yet for humanity! I legitimately find myself wondering how Japan is so oblivious to all this. Offendatrons be like ''That is sexist'' and Japan be like '' ''.

Footnote 118 references this gem from 15 years ago: http://www.21stcenturysciencetech.com/articles/New_violence.html

It's at the bottom. It also uses the then-fashionable descriptor of Dungeons and Dragons as "satanic." I can't believe we're dealing with this kind of crap being taken seriously again.

There are 3 individuals, who would be interested not only in this topic, but turned this banshees to shreds.

I need to convert myself into a evangelist for a sec, might be of help to look presentable than just a mass of fur.

He had quite the field day for that video, but the mention ON Japan needs clarification, it has one of the craziest and sleaziest attitudes in the sex market YOU COULD EVER SEE, of course it has no opinion about it! they have the Yakuza to thank for that!

Or are MMO's with mildly attractive gear NOT a red flag? or the story of the wife of the fisherman erotic lovestory? or the consensus for 13 olds to have consent? or just look at anime or hentai, I mean, there is a cause for that!

13 is just in the national laws; and all the states are actually 16+ I hear.
We need more alternatives, its pretty clear by now social media and corporations picked their side - brainwash and censorship. But if there is a positive side, it would be breaking the monopoly, as people won't move unless something wakes them up. The power of facebook/youtube/google/twitter have over the matters comes exactly from lack of proper competition - and likely what makes them think they can censor shit in the first place.

Companies follow money, if it hurts them badly they'll change, countries however... when we complained about censorship, both regressive left and some libertarians said 'it's private property, it's not on government level', well now I think it's pretty clear UN and EU 'human rights court' are not private property, and it should've been fought way earlier. One can only hope it serves as a catalyst to wake up people from their apathy before it gets worse.

What can we do? Find or create the alternatives, support them, VPN around UN 'North Korea' if you're stuck in one, dark web. Surely, there are/there will be companies ready to capitalize on major players (and as it may be countries) forcing people and ideas out of their platforms.
