MaGo72: Source for that statement: "The artist ignored the target group by copying a pose from one of his earlier nude erotica comics"?

Vainamoinen: E. g. Penthouse Comix, November 1996, Milo Manara cover.
This is a simple case of self plagiarism.

So you inferred that yourself? You realize that her upper half is well above the concrete ground of the building and her back not arched like in the stated cover? You also realize that it is a completely different scene and spider woman has not her fingers touching her mouth?

Perhaps it would be good to state something like "in my opinion" or "I think" in that case. Well SJWs always stating the universal truth...

I know, you hate that acronym.

PS I have the german version of Craig Thompson's Blankets and yes, I think it is quite good. It was highly praised by "Der Spiegel" and "Süddeutsche Zeitung" back then. In my opinion it is one of the spearheads which paved the way for more "serious" real life and social topics in comics. Although from my point of view, but I guess that comes with the medium, highly overdrawn stereotypical characters.

Yeah how dare you gooblegarber refer to someone with a term! Gators always do that to degrade their opponents.

Awww yeah! 4 days to go till AirPlay. SJWs must be planting imaginary bombs right about now. Brianna Wu must be sweating and Sarkeesian is probably trying to offload her dough to foreign accounts.

Hmmm, rich feminist organizes mob to conduct a pre thought out attack on a guy who doesn't share their opinion. If Hitler was alive, he would've been proud. If this was done anywhere more isolated, I'd bet they would've set on fire as well.

I think they all refused. While claiming gg doesn't want debate of course.

We'll have to wit till the event itself. Currently its between 'maybe' and 'no'. Which is the problem everywhere honestly. I don't think it'll change much anyway honestly. The moderates will probably be at least a bit pro$J and any ''arguments'' put forth by the hive are easily debunked when the other bees aren't there to silence it out. $JWs wanna whine about sexism but cannot to bear to talk about it because again, the current sexism problem in games is vastly overblown and all they could say are their own radical extremist principles which would damage the amount of victimbux they get.
We can even see it on this forum. People are willing to downvote and complain but never debate. Proving them wrong means taking away their superiority complex; and without that they don't do well.

227: Relevant picture.

Not that I know much about comics or anything. I sometimes dive into wikis about certain characters to try and figure out what's going on, but they read like a soap opera on a bad acid trip. "So and so died but was resurrected by someone else and their lover moved on with their mechanical evil twin from another dimension who was really the original one all along! Dun dun dun!"

But still, the uproar over a pose identical to one spiderman did on a cover without any outcry is a wonderful example of double standards and people looking to be offended over nothing. I guess the perpetually outraged are everywhere these days.

Vainamoinen: Another relevant picture.

Understanding comics culture is a bit like understanding games culture. If you look at it as a block mushed together, you see a lot of superheroes and it's easy to think that this is what comics are all about. On the contrary, understanding the art means looking at the indies. The aforementioned Saga is one of the best serialized comics ventures today; think Spaceballs on speed. The most important graphic novel of the last 10 years, I think, is Shaun Tan's The Arrival. And if you're into the social justice stuff, ain't we all, try Craig Thompson's Habibi or Blankets (warning, both explicit at times). That would give you a more well rounded view of the medium.

We had already agreed on the problems of universal outrage culture. And particularly as the outcry here centered not on a franchise, but on one individual creator, and comprised far too many articles, it wasn't a cause I could get behind in any way. Of course, the death threats the protesters received, I couldn't get behind those as well. The artist ignored the target group by copying a pose from one of his earlier nude erotica comics, and that only promts a reaction like a raised eyebrow and the perpetually raised question: Could we go without, please? :(
People that complained about Manara´s Spiderwoman is simply SICK, more with that kind of exagerated pictures, your argument is ridiculous http://i.imgur.com/PalW6is.jpg

I always found Spiderman very GAY, always, thanks to his poses, (nothing wrong on it but his ass was oversexualized since the beginning of times)

You are puritans hidden as "feminists"

But as I said, I have no stake in this controversy and found it overblown. Manara's art is boring anyway.

Good luck finding an earlier, non sexualized Manara pose prototype though.
Here it comes the puritan, LOL

I bet you people were been "hurted" and scared about this many years ago...

To the Anti-GamerGate,
I know you’re out there. I can feel you now. I know that you’re afraid… you’re afraid of us. You’re afraid of change. I don’t know the future. I didn’t come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin. I’m going to post this comment, and then I’m going to show these people what you don’t want them to see…
The beginning of the end?

And the critters have come out a their hidey-holes. X-D Should be good for a laugh or two.

Yeah; they always have that blackmailing ''I'll show everyone your dirty laundry mindset!''. Goes well since there is nothing to hide anyway. I bet they'll make something up. I like how the guy thinks defaming gamergate somehow makes it disappear. Anyhoo, the most we'll see is a bomb threat from ''Unconditional love'' Chu and people getting doxed by ''Tripple B '' Biddle.

Thanks for the recommendation; I looked those up and Habibi in particular stood out. Maybe I'll find the time to sit down with one of those at some point.

Sigh, there are always death threats whenever something controversial happens, aren't there? But yeah, I wasn't accusing you or anything, and I remember that we agree on the outrage thing. I just thought that incident fit into the random puritanical outrage that seems to be the modus operandi of the culture crusaders someone had mentioned earlier using the acronym that shan't be written.

Is it really necessary to antagonize someone just because you disagree with them? Besides, Vaina linked me to some fairly explicit artsy stuff, so I think you might be a bit off the mark. They're kind of taking it from all sides, lately, and I think the least we could do is appreciate that someone's still around to disagree and keep us from turning into the same kind of echo chamber we've spent the past year decrying.

I'm not asking that we all magically become best friends forever, but a little decency toward even those we disagree with would go a long way.
