Emob78: Could be a lot of things... it's really a free-for-all of issues considering the state of the world right now. But somehow, to me anyway, the percentage of gay/bi/trans/female characters that are in video games ranks as a jack point shit on my list of needful things to pay attention to. But hey, it's all subjective, right? So I guess each person's mileage may vary. If it is a really big deal for you, fine. That's your own measuring stick. Just don't think other people such as myself are misogynist, racist assholes for thinking your priorities are a bit out of whack.
Fever_Discordia: Yeah, 'first world problems' and all that - it's certainly hard to argue that one when there's people being shot up in churches in America and on beaches in Tunisia
It actually disgusts me when EA gets voted 'Most Evil Company of the Year' for, I dunno, DLC nickel and dimeing when there's companies like Nestle, Coke and Apple's hardware division running sweatshops, destroying villages and exploiting 3rd world mothers ...
Preventing tragedies and making factory work more ethically humane is almost entirely based on education. While media does have a part in it, consider that most Apple corporate heads and Chinese factory owners don't play games. Neither do the people they exploit. Higher ethical standards in business will never be attained if media molds art to be that way.
If you try to gather the mindsets of people committing atrocities, its ALMOST never related to them being represented or non represented in public consumption art media like games. Favoring particular forms of art over others because bad stuff happening is little more than pandering and trying to gain a positive public angle while feeding off tragedy. Consider the Charleston shooter might have been lacking interaction with non-white students in school, and formed prejudices that no one broke for him. Then when he grew up and still no one broke those prejudices, they just got over inflated to the level beyond delusional and culminated in him wanting kill innocent people. Its all about education.
