Vainamoinen:
you know why gg sometimes seems as not liking indies?

probably has something to do that over the past few years, there was heavy action vs AAA, but indies were held as saviors and angels. None could do something wrong, and criticizing indies was seen as heresy.

Certain developers (totally not looking at a P.F. here) showed that not all on the indie side was greener, that some indie devs too were crooked and full of shit.

but many people are still stuck in the idea that if you criticize any indie, you MUST hate all indies, LOVE AAA, love DRM DLC (especially day one) and suck EA c*ck.

face it, gamers have been hating on AAA practices for a while.

GG is something different, and has nothing to do with loving monopolies and AAA.
GG is based on different aspects.

but your mind seems set in stone anyways.

and what posts on this page? GG is upset at that loony at CDPR comparing us to racist murderers. noting to do with AAA or indies

had it been ubisoft, EA or activision that would have said such a thing we'd be mad as well, just less shocked as we know those guys have quite some shit in them anyways

Honestly I don't care what Chris Priestly says on his private time on twitter. GoG may have all kinds of reasons for hiring and not firing him, but as long as GoG continues to provide great products and service I don't have a problem with GoG. Has anyone seen GoG talking about the GG/KKK?

My concern is that those here who claim to represent GG are working with fervour to get someone fired from a job when no one has mentioned a reason, related to his job, that he should be fired. I would term that harassment and I would say it pollutes the name of GamerGate. I support objectivity in journalism, but not at all costs. What does Chris have to do with Journalism?

Someone noted that Chris Priestly has used his position as Community Manager to abuse users of GoG... links please. I would like to know if these exist somewhere.

Chris Priestly has just apologized for the comparison on twitter in a series of eight tweets.

He sure did.

I guess CDPR knows what they're doing after all. CMs aren't supposed to do that shit, and they put a leash on him.

Bravo!

That is definitely an apology. I have mixed feelings about it, but at least it makes clear that the original tweet was a statement by Chris and not GoG. I'd hate to think that GoG may have forced him to apologize, and even more so if this forum thread affected that decision.

more likely CRPR got a boatload of (legit) complaint mails about the guy, to which CDPR requested he'd apologize or at least say those are only his opinions, to counter a potential and very real backlash

Vainamoinen: At this time, GOG should probably rather keep quiet. Gamergate threatens the entire industry except the AAA publishers and developers, my fav publisher should rather sit this one out instead of blowing up the danger the movement poses to anyone but the monopolies.

All they can do now is to make small, innocuous steps to make clear where they do stand.

Steps like following Wil Wheaton on twitter, for example.

Continue the outrage.

/edit: A good overview over the proceedings at the expo, containing longer quotes from the HBB disruptive strategy outline. Contains the HBB's own answer as to who "infiltrates" whom, with which I would agree.
http://comicsalliance.com/honey-badger-radio-calgary-expo/

What we do have here, plain and simple, is that A Voice for Men, already classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, was trying to shove their agenda into video games under the gamergate hashtag, selling gamergate merchandise while doing nothing but to disrupt panels with a feminist angle. Shouldn't that make y'all really, really mad? Isn't that an abuse of the gamergate name? Isn't this absolutely NOT what gamergate is supposeldy about?

Or would we rather continue the outrage over a community manager who may or may not have assessed gamergate correctly, but has DEFINITELY assessed the group present at Calgary Expo correctly?

Here's a more snarky evaluation of the HBB:
http://wehuntedthemammoth.com/2015/04/17/rape-joke-loving-honey-badgers-booted-from-calgaryexpo-highly-ironic-tweets-ensue/#more-16125
Lol Comics Alliance? While we're talking about fair reporting I wonder what Jezebel (or any other site that took their cue from The Mary Sue) think of them.

I take it you've heard the audio from the panel which got them kicked out right? Where they asked if the panelists were willing to talk about those things before they proceeded?

They didn't get kicked out for disrupting anything, they got booted for being pro-GG. The only disruptions were from the likes of our genius community manager here portraying them as being super terrorists and something to be afraid of.

"Go home Gamer-Girl". There's your irony.

Businesses often have a say in the words of their spokespeople. He has a responsibility not to embarrass them in his position. And why should it be so bad if our opinions mattered to GoG? I'd personally be happy if this were a direct response to this thread, but I'm sure it is not just us.

I find it a bit strange he has so much hatred for Gamergate given his stupid and arguably sexist Tweet to Felicia Day.

Ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GloKM8HPy-I

In other #news people were linking anti ggs to arms dealers and congress reps.

You mean like largely quoting the text of the crowd funding campaign, which lays bare in detail the disruptive intent more than any third party could?

Sorry guys. GG supporters need to distance themselves from the HBB, from A Voice for Men, from their activist methods, from their idea of "infiltrating" geek culture. These assholes were even selling gamergate merchandise. The HBB are putting your movement right in the box of 8chan style activism (oh hello VJ avatar, are we getting an influx from these kids now? Oh please do stay, we need your input on the oh-so-not-gamergate SJW conspiracy in just about a few posts). You should be outraged, and you should be telling the HBB off once and for all.

Not attack a community manager for thinking that next to those creepy people with defo destructive intent, a racist hate group booth would not be misplaced.

Why the sudden push for facts? Are you not a strong independent SJW who is more equal than us and don't need no proof?

for having posters of "no to censor"?
"they were even selling gg merchandise" so? had someone sold a picture of anitas towerfall char, would that have warranted a removal?

HBB got attacked for supporting gg, and gg should be telling them off? thats like antis dogpiling someone for saying gg is bad isn't it?

you say we should be distancing ourselves from people fighting censor, and not be mad at someone who compared us to the KKK?

we are. at the expo. For censoring a booth for its "remove censor" slogans

avatar
Vainamoinen: a racist hate group booth
wait, so because it were woman in the booth, gg is no longer misogynist, but now racist?

Lol what the hell are you babbling about? You sound like a crazy person.

Are you talking about their "declaration" of intent which reads like its obviously taking the piss because it IS obviously taking the piss?

As for the community manager, I'll make this real simple. The community manager, the fella whose job it is to make nice between gamers and developers, linked Gamergate supporters in general..........to the KKK. This is the same "worse than ISIS" trash that has been thrown around for the better part of a year. Can you understand why people were upset with him?

That said he apologized and distanced his views from CDPR. Which was the right thing. I have no reason to care about how much of a bad P.R job he's doing anymore.

Also for what its worth I've had my VJ avatar since last year. I wanted something with more color after GOG decided that grey as far as the eye can see was the best way to go. Also I've been around for years as you can plainly see so please don't try that forum elitism shtick.

I'm not much involved in this discussion but I have to chip in here because this really gets on my nerves as well. We have fought long and hard in the western society for the right to freely trade, if the sold goods are legal and both trade partners give their consent, and now this right gets trampled under the foots of people, who think that offending their sentimentalities warrants a ban on legal trade relationships.
This is very, very frightening and paints a dark picture for the times to come, if these people really get more rights to dictate what we are to consume and what not.
If selling stuff with the Gamergate logo on it is the only "misconduct" these people did, then they have every right to sue the Expo and they will win.
