Fever_Discordia: Are you unable to watch any of Anita's videos for fear of your brain boiling and eyes melting, like you're opening the Arc of the Covenant or something?

dragonbeast: nah rather i feel like many/most of her arguments are unresearched and downright bullshit. You can at some times almost taste the #fullmcintosh
It's still going to detail which games the Anti side are holding up as sexist though, whatever
OK - Duke Nuke 'Em series for a start then, oh yea of little imagination!

Well as Loom, The Dig, ZakMcKracken and others are released here on GOG think twice before buying them, you may support possibly sexist devs and employees at that time.

Most of those games were produced and released in the social dark ages of computer gaming, meaning as they were developing the games, they may have had ideas that could be considered sexist or misogynistic. Even if those ideas did not made it in the final game, you are nevertheless supporting a possibly hazardous intent and the possible manifestation of detrimental mindsets at that time.

Time to buy The Dig, finally, yaaay.

For example, there is a woman in the science team in The Dig(a highly misogynistic name, do not let yourself be fooled by the G), but you can play only Commander Boston Low. You can't play the female character, this is highly sexist, even if the depicted woman(and let's do not think about the highly objectified nature of the pixels, slender cis gen white female) is a female scientist and not a housewife. So no Schafer aura here....ha.
and remember, samus and lucina are not well known or strong females!

we do not talk about that

just like we don't talk about zelda in the CDI horror, whose only purpose is to be the basis of many a ytp

also, i feel bayonetta is a real "i'm sexy and i know it" character, which isn't bad (especially considering shes also a slaughtering machine)

Fever_Discordia: I genuinely have never come across the acronym 'MSM' before - snip
... Now I know that 'MSM' is 'mainstream media' (and not 'Men who have Sex with Men' as top answer on aconym finder says - Mainstream Media is the second!) I can see what your saying
That's interesting - I didn't know it could represent that. But msm=mainstream media, it's usage is quite common, at least in my circles, as it were.

avatar
Fever_Discordia: I... don't know why you're so desperate for me to define Mainstream Media, seems weird but here goes -
The mainstream media is the news and entertainment source for the normal person in the street, the 'layman', Joe Bloggs, John Q Public who does not have any specialist knowledge or interest in a subject and needs the facts explained in simple terms.
Most people use specialist news sources for topics (gaming, science, foreign affairs, stamp collecting etc.) that they have a specialist interest in and the mainstream for the rest, which they don't

Hope that clears things up...
Not desperate but you did misunderstand and secondly because quite often misunderstandings and problems with communication occur with people over definitions of words. eg: feminism I would consider myself a feminist and yet I am frequently abused by certain participants on this thread by being called misogynist (something I find to be an odd combination of hilarious and yet unbelievably insulting) - such is the word misogyny waved about like a blunt instrument.

However I digress. And unless I have over looked something in your reply there was the other question I had was how you interpreted this

noncompliantgame: There seems to be consensus amoungst we the people that online harassment is largely apolitical degenerates and "kidiots".
to mean?
avatar
Fever_Discordia: online abuse in online gaming IS a serious problem
as well as the comment about that part of my post being followed with "but" .

However if you don't wish to answer it, don't feel obliged, at this point its just idle curiosity. :-)

Shadowstalker16: Can someone name some examples of games being sexist please? That's the Atni's argument yes? So please say some.

XD LOLed so hard man. The Arc of The Covenant and her video comparison just pushed me over the edge lol.
Anyhow, Duke Nukem is as stated before released in a very confusing time for the industry. Also; Duke himself is grossly represented. Its equally sexist to both men and women. And we have evidence of Forever (if you even call it a ND game) was basically put together with a few hundred dollars and added in boobs to sell to the teenagers. Its in every corner of the game. Anything else? Other M isn't even a Metroid game; and even if it was; it still protrays nothing more than a soldier who is loyal enough to obey orders to the letter. Just like any good soldier does. Behave like a pawn. Because that's what a soldier is. And Samus was EQUALLY abiding of it.

*sigh* I'm sorry (because I know you'll all be gutted) but I think I'm going to have to sit out for a while because 'my' side has done something that bothers me greatly, you guys don't seem to have noticed because it's not directly linked to gaming but more generally to geek culture, well here goes:

http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/mar/17/dc-comics-pull-batgirl-joker-cover-after-protests

There's limits to what a 'mainstream' DC / WB comicbook can put on its cover and still be appropriate but I, personally, don't think this crosses that line

I see a really powerful image that highlights how much of a monster The Joker is and at the same time, in humanities and creates great empathy for the the costumed superhero

It's... interesting to think that some guys might be thinking "phwarr look how vulnerable and scared she looks" *fap, fap, fap* but I don't think the rest of us should be denied a powerful image because of a few mentally ill people and I don't think looking at it causes mental illness either (ironically, of course, I probably never would have seen it if there wasn't this big kafuffle about it)

Its an Alan Moore Homage too!
If it was Power Girl looking particularly ridiculously booby or even a Frank Miller Homage I might have been able to live with it but nah - I'm going to just sit over here with a big tub of popcorn for a bit at least...

Yeah, I had heard about Bat-Gate. Pretty ridiculous, but what do you expect from a useless first world social revolution based not on labor rights or real humanitarian problems, but... sensitivity and 'feelings'? These controversies are also neither the beginning nor the end of the nanny state crew and their wrecking ball of shame. Sooner or late they will get around to something everyone has a passion for... and they will destroy it.

First they whacked off Thor's penis, soon one will be charged with supporting the patriarchy for even asserting that Thor was at one time a man. History revisionism and mental illness have now infected popular culture. Long live Big Brother... I suppose that's suggesting that the State is indeed a man. How sexist of me. Long live Big Sister.
Its been over the forums already. Anyhow; here's a prefect example of how those things are CENSORING FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. That is all that is. Literally ''protesting'' so the artists remove a particular image that offended some idiots with low self-esteem and rape-paranoia is censorship. You gotta draw the line somewhere; and those comic artists didn't; but just bent over to social justice whining accepted that their right to freedom of expression is less equal than a few armchair activists' right to preach for a mealticket.

Oh yah; ITS ABOUT OBJECTIVITY; lets hope Master Kuchera gets it this time at least : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wYez31BeY4 If not; he should go and earn a degree and actually study journalism before abusing media for social justice,

Oh, I didn't know about that one.

It's a good image, the Joker really looks like what he is: A true a**hole.
