Attacking GOG would be like stealing from your mom. The lowest of the low.

tremere110: I'm worried that if it is discovered the GoG has threads about Gamergate that it might be subject to DDoS attacks. It's a terrifically bad idea mind you - it's one thing to silence a subject gamers are interested in, it's quite another to attack the games themselves in a way that prevents us from playing them.
Heh, I‘d like to see these assholes try! GOG isn‘t Steam, mind you. DDoSing GOG won‘t lock anybody out of their games collection. We‘ll still have our handy, DRM-free installers at our fingertips while the issue is sorted out. It would be nothing but a minor, temporary inconvenience for GOG and its users.

And yes, it would be a terrifically bad idea. GOG are widely recognized as the good guys among digital distributors. A DDoS attack would NOT go down well with the gaming community.

First off, they wanted to have Steam shut down for an hour to support those two women. My personal response? "*Cue 5 minutes of maniacal laughter, followed by 2 minutes of coughing* I can't think of a faster way to throw as much support behind Gamergate as this would get. It would basically be them saying that there are no middle grounds, and that alone is going to piss most people off."

Attacking GOG wouldn't do them any good, because GOG most likely still wouldn't shut down the threads. I guarentee you that both this and the Zoe Quinn topic are being watched by GOG staff in case it starts getting bad, and I think it's going to take a lot for them to actually be willing to do something about it.

Yeah, I got wind of that too. That was a very early hint at how completely out of touch with reality these people are.

Exactly, it's not like we're orchestrating raids or anything. We're all just trying to make some sense out of an outrageously crazy situation. And I deeply appreciate the fact that the staff puts enough trust in us users to let the discussions go on.

enigmaxg2: I thought this had something to do with GamerSGate and their DRM turn...

What's that GameRGate thing and why it's all over the net? can anyone explain me in an easy manner (because I only see really long/dense texts)

Vestin: Here's an extremely short version from the gamer perspective.
The other side mostly claims that this is about misogyny, toxicity, or "death of gamers".
Thanks for showing me how the gaming media has become corrupted... :/

TwilightBard: Video not available in your country. I'm not gonna lie I think that's the first time I've ever SEEN that. I'll have to look for an alternate source.
Try this one instead. :-)

Been looking at the gamergate thread at neogaf, and it's mostly anti-gg, and pro-game journalists/Anita, and such. Anyone know why?

Censorship, basically.

Apart from doing his let's play of Ethan Carter yesterday, Total Biscuit also revealed he tried to organize a rountable with journalists but they backed off due to te the leak f the mailing list:

And even if GOG was down for a few hours, it wouldn't hurt their business too much comparing to steam as we play offline and the clever ones always have some backups of games. Even if a nuclear war starts out, we would still be busy playing :)

I wish him luck, he's honestly doing a good job of at least not frothing at the mouth, even though he does poke at them from time to time. He's been neutral enough, calling out the really stupid shit but he honestly seems to care about the position this is all in.

As far as GOG or Steam coming down, I don't think anyone's really that stupid enough to do it in someone's name. It's the ultimate in 'There is no neutrality', and that kind of shit rarely flies with people, they get pissed, they go nuts...yeah, that's not just the sleeping giant, that's an army of them.

We have a famous sentence taken from French Cinema : "les cons, ça osent tout, c'est à ça qu'on les reconnaît" . Rough translation : "Idiots dare everything, that's how we recognize them". Needless to say that's a saying which counts for both camps (pro and anti SJW)

Vestin: Actually - it hit me today that the reasons for the state of things could be somewhat cultural... Americans don't worship freedom as their most beloved ideal - that spot belongs to EQUALITY. Since they hate discrimination so much (for instance: treat racist insults as the most vulgar), the SJWs had fertile ground to flourish there, take root, gain influence.
Just remember that it isn't true of all Americans, of course. Mostly it applies to Democrats, left-wingers, academics, etc. Don't get me wrong, the right wing is very often idiotic as well, but these SJW attitudes (you're either with us or you're a bigot/racist/misogynist; anything is justified in the name of the cause; everyone and everything must be politically correct at all times; etc) are endemic of the left wing in the U.S.

Some of us *do* practically worship freedom, often preferring to call it liberty and ourselves libertarians. Ironically, we're often painted as nutjobs by both the right and the left. Advocating a just society based on voluntary interactions between peaceful people... We must be fucking crazy, right? ;)

That movie is truly awesome. :)
Bunnicula
Wow. I read 'em, too. I haven't thought of those books in a LONG time.

Kind of glad i didn't pledge for Mighty No. 9. And as much as i love Megaman, i don't think i'll pay full price for this one anymore. 75% sale it is then.
