Vainamoinen: If someone's jumping behind rape advisers and their wacky crew, yes I blame them. I someone's jumping behind blatantly obvious misogynists, yes I blame them.
And your "side" has people who did nothing about friends they knew were raping (Arthur Chu) and those who deny the existence of sexism as it concerns an entire gender (Anita S, who I hate to bring up, but that's a wonderful nugget to throw back at you). I don't expect to dissuade you from your viewpoint, of course, but you should know that you're in absolutely no position to judge.

Vainamoinen: One jumps behind them and suddenly, all that misrepresentation ceases to be misrepresentation. It's gamergate becoming what the media may describe it as.
Only when fumbling for any excuse to paint an entire group as guilty by association.

But let's say that your portrayal of these individuals in question isn't in any way overblown: are bad people incapable of making ever making good points again? Should one person's misdeeds really be used to undermine everything they say to the point where even association causes one's arguments to weaken? Given the number of anti-GGers who have lied, incited, and otherwise been terrible human beings, wouldn't that very same standard weaken your argument?

noncompliantgame: I am NOT "continuously injecting this thread with articles from Roosh V [and] Davis Aurini". I haven't been on this thread for a few weeks and the minute I turn up so do you, attacking me for no reason.
avatar
Vainamoinen: I'm sorry that you feel offended, somewhat at least, but yes you HAVE injected this thread with V.'s site and Aurini articles, and yes, very very continuously.

First post October 7th, link to Aurini’s Sarkeesian effect patreon.
October 9th, no one replied, so you’re asking again “humbly” to back Aurini’s shit.
December 05th dozens of links, e.g. Aurini’s blog
December 8th, links to videos from “the nice guy from the Sarkeesian Effect”.
December 12th, “very good article from Sarkeesian Effect producer Davis Aurini”, posted in full in two posts.
December 16th links to the self proclaimed rapist’s twitter.
December 22nd “Sarkeesian Effect producer tells all”
December 30th “Sarkeesian Effect producer tells all”, two links and 12 empty lines for effect
January 2nd, links to Sarkeesian Effect patreon
January 13th, links to Aurinis blog (again)
January 25th, links to reaxxion
February 01st, links to reaxxion
February 01st, links to reaxxion again
February 3rd, links to five articles on reaxxion
February 24th, Sarkeesian Effect patreon links again
February 27th, links to reaxxion
Besides, Its his GODDAMN right to post links like that to the discussion. The SJW have also tried to link their articles but AH!

That's right, not letting the GG side tell their side is what the SJW have been doing all this time. They spread their articles everywhere but dare bring in any article from the other side.

Silence GG, and make sure to portray them all as rapists. That's how anti gg has been rolling

edited to be less aggressive but still, this is very crude

dragonbeast: snip
Here I'll side with Vaina... this is not bullying, it's not stalking, it's factual and relevant to Vaina's argument.

I might say it's a bit below the belt to individualize at all, but the way he has done it crosses no redlines IMO.

Taking the opportunity.

The thing I find unethical with Vaina, is that I sense some entitlement, I mean, "injecting" subjective opinions I disagree with... how crappy of you old chap... etc... NCG has every right to post here as anyone else, I might not find his wall of texts appealing aesthetically (I'm a snip and link fan myself), but other people are different...

Yeah... arrogance, the gift that keeps on giving... that said, his curiosity about the other side is commendable, pity it's so obvious he is holding his nose while talking with us :)

Vainamoinen: I'd like to ask for everyone's honest and individual opinion on that last noncompliantgame post, please. Just to get a lay of the land here.
I couldn't read the entire article, it is just too over the top. I think it is a troll article written to discredit gg and/or reaxxion. I read about something similar in the early 90's. At that time the debate was about a men's club. A man wrote an article describing the importance of men's clubs as they provided men a place to escape the pressures of family and to bond with other men in a safe environment. After the backlash about how men don't spend time with their families, have all kinds of safe spaces, etc.... The author revealed that the original article was written by a feminist about the importance of places for women where men were not allowed. He had just switched the genders.

We don't need to declare a holy war against anti-gg. All we need to do is have reasonable debate, continue to keep an eye on the games journalists and show the publishers that anti-gg are not the only gaming market demographic. That is enough to ensure that the industry won't just blindly follow the anti-gg talking points.
Gawker is currently involved in a class action lawsuit over unpaid interns. Gawker's lawyers are trying to stop the other lawyer's from linking the lawsuit to other "unrelated controversies and political causes." The first example of that is Gamergate. This is interesting as court documents such as this are carefully crafted. I would not be surprised if more than ten hours was spent writing four pages. So when it really matters Gamergate is not described as a hate movement.

A mix of clickbait and humor perhaps? Although Anita wouldn't allow herself to be a damsel in distress? Who got a $400,000 un-needed rescue for cancelling a talk because one of her fake accounts sent her a death threat?

it's a (in my opinion humorous) satire

[rant/]

But yesterday I probably posted that satire article because was p*ssed surrounding the gg case because i found out things that happened about a month ago that made me lose all respect I had for a group which i liked and respected. I'm talking about the extra credits vs Totalbiscuit events. And I'm saddened.

I used to respect extra credits and watched most of their movies. I watched them less when i felt they were getting derailed from their main subject.

Later i heard they were anti gg, even though most if their standpoints in 'standing against controversy' etc were 70% the main points of gamergate. But hey, to each their own opinion.

Bat alas, this happened.

Totalbiscuit announces a 2 day twitter holiday because he has to undergo chemo. Shortly after extra credits sends him a mass of loaded questions, accusing him of various things, and basically forcing certain compromising answers. And all the while TB is having chemo.

Then I found the video where james of EC names TB leader of gg (even though gg is one of those rare grouping that have absolutely no chain of command). and then James takes parallels between gg and the f#@%ing KKK.

TB took a break from the twitter holiday and under influence of painkillers and chemo wrote a reply, which was surprisingly well worded and formed, seeing how he was under influence of chemo and painkillers

I had no words.

So i got sorta pissed and linked the satire article.

In just half an hour time i went from respecting and liking EC, to being downright disgusted with them.

Indeed; the fall of EC hit me hard as well. Still debating whether to unsub or not. Still don't understand why they do this though.

It's pretty simple as to why. James writes at Gamasutra and is unwilling to admit that his friends did anything wrong. I'm pretty sure he's simply been compliant, and because of that I really doubt his abilities as a journalist.

EC really lost me a while ago anyways. They started talking down to people and pushing single viewpoints as solutions, rather than encouraging discussion. You can hear it in Dan's tone and the way that James likes to shove himself in everywhere. I kept subbed for a while, but after the TB thing I unsubbed to be part of the statistic. I don't at all feel bad about not being looked down upon every week.

I wish there was a show LIKE Extra credits which wasn't run by such snooty and protective people. Satchbag isn't really it, Super Bunnyhop is good but his topics are super varied, and other gaming analysis channels have mostly the same problem as EC with lower production values. As an aspiring designer, it's important to hear people dig into issues of design and the industry, but I know for sure that blindly listening to EC will just make me stubborn.

fun fact: James acted as if TBs paid promotion of Guns of Icarus was an evil thing. Which, by the way, was a tournament, with no restriction to his opinion (he did not contractually have to be positive and he had reviewed GoI earlier anyway) and with full disclosure of the promotion. James downright attacked TB for this. Looking at the EC youtube page: of their last 2 vids 2 say sponsored, with other videos in the post having been paid as well (even though this was often barely disclosed by EC, of some I only heard it when looking at this case).

Bit hypocritical to attack TB on this methinks.

As i posted on elsewhere: i agree with Harvey Dent here: "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain."

I always thought that Extra Credits had their heads up their butts, so I'm not really surprised. All they can do is talk fast and use clever sounding words. And a chipmunk voice filter for some reason. Once you looked past that their videos were really just fallacies and half-truths piled on top of each other.
