Honestly, I couldn't stomach any of the movies posted on that site. I know there is not that much you can do in five minutes, but if those are the winners I don't want to see the rest of the entrants. BTW, what does this have to do with the topic.

Same train of thought than for the IGF contest. Just replace "film" with "game"....

I guess some GG'er would spit at "Coming Out Simulator 2014":

But hey, there some other interesting finalists on the side:

Strange, clicked that link expecting to be appalled, but have to say it seems to have a quality to it. Far better than a certain depression simulator where you get walls of text between your 5-10 barely-choices. Rather well done for what it is. The name is unfortunate though. Throw the word Simulator on anything these days and it's almost an immediate turn-off.

That sim didn't load for me (I'll try again later) just know that many of us gamers (me included) want a variety of games available. the gaming industry is big enough for everyone's vision to have a shot. We just don't need ads disguised as proper reviews though it's ok to tell of a game's greatness if it's earned by it's own merits

That was one of the more heartwrenching experiences I have had in a game for a while. And it just reminded me why I'm holding off coming out to my family anytime soon. Goddamn it. I promised myself I wouldn't cry.

It gets better dude ;)

You know what they say, you don't choose family, but you choose friends. Focus on what is under your control, but don't give up on family... they may surprise you.

I gave up on my family the moment they start spewing homophobic bullshit the moment no known gays were listening. At best, they would be disgusted with me, at worst... well, let's just say that I think that the ending where the main character gets punched in the face by his dad isn't out of the realm of possibility for me, to say the least.

It's always sad to see/hear that 30 years later, Bronski Beat's hit is still a reality....

That's to bad man

I know my parents would (at worst) be a bit sad that I wouldn't bring any grandchildren home for them.

I personally have no problem with gays as long as they understand I'm not.

I just don't get what the problem is that people have with gays. If 2 gay guys go in a relationship, that means 2 (usually good looking) guys less for the girls to choose from, meaning us ugly smuts have slightly bigger chance at getting girls. They are no longer waifu competition.

Ah but whatever I'm a straight white cis male so according to tumblr I utterly hate you, so sorry

@Jonesy89: I'm sorry to hear that, I wish you luck

@dragonbeast: It seems to me the "problem" is rooted in religious zealotry. It's sad really & I feel as you do if someone wants me to accept them as they are, the least they could do is try to practice what they "preach" and accept me as I am. & I too am a straight white cis male

Chin up old son, remember being truthful about who you are is essential to your own happiness and fulfillment.

Aside from that I found the game banal as hell and needlessly pedantic and couldn't get past the 4th scene.

It might be essential, but not risking my parents' wrath is even more essential in my current state. As for the game... I'm really not sure I understand your criticism regarding it being pedantic. As for it being banal, I don't see that at all. If anything, this is one of the more original takes on the subject I have seen in gaming. I applaud it for doing something that other, particularly more recent, games about LBGT life *cough*GoneHome*cough* have failed to do: it actually had the nards to give coming out more than a passing mention in the story. Coming out is insanely stressful to decide to do in the first place due to society generally being dicks about sexuality, and the decision gets even more nerve-wracking to wrestle with whenever the person you are planning on coming out to says or does shit that makes it clear that they will react poorly if they find out. It's a major source of conflict, both internal and external, which is why it baffles me that no other game that addresses it gives it more attention.

Like the creator of the game, I am bisexual; however, children are definitely not in the equation for me. I've long since come to the conclusion that I would be a shitty father for a variety of reasons.

I see what you mean.Perhaps I will give it another try and see the whole thing through then. As for your situation I can only give my best, that being I hope there is something that can assuage you of any doubts that what other peoples perceptions on the matter are of little value and hold no ground in either reason or human decency. I have been very lucky in my life with these things and I regret that I cannot provide some "magic bullet" so as to lessen the burden of your predicament. All I can do then is say I hope that when and if you do decide to make the big push that it goes well. All the best - Z

Also *cough*GoneHome*cough* was balls.
